How to look up flash chips?

Doing a bit of a hack, but I need to look up flash chips. Is there a good way to do so?

parametric search of digikey et al combined with googling for datasheets

there is always some kind of product number on the chip.

Look that up and most often you’ll be able to find datasheets for it.

What is the hack if i may ask?

One major “producer” is WinBond.
At least most motherboards i have, have winbond chips.

Often times SPI flash chips use the same pinout. If you’re willing to try, you can hook up an SPI programmer to the chip and run flashrom to try to determine the model number if you can’t read what’s printed on the top of the package.

Atm msata ssd to sata to ibook, possibly 2 on the same board, with ofw getting slapped around till it can read it as one whole drive.

And if by chance anyone wants to donate an msata ssd that’d be great.

Theres other things with this as well that I can’t go into great detail yet past timing the chips to the system. Some weird shit, don’t mind that.

Also potentially soldering ram.

you could post pictures of the chips and we could point you in the right direction : )

well, good luck and success with that!
Please keep us up to date.
