hi guys i just built my first computer, but i want it to stay like new for a long time
what maintenece do you do to your computer? on my laptop i was told to do a disk defragment once a month. will a disk defragment help with ssd's or just reduce their life? any other programs that help a computer stay fast?
There's no need to defrag an ssd. It will only shorten it's life. Defragging hard drives will make sure they're operating at their optimal speed. Download defraggler because windows defrag sucks. Other than that just do virus and spyware scans from time to time.
Defragging an SSD will gain you nothing. What I like to do is install drivers and everything, software I use all the time then create a system image or a hard drive clone. Then if it ever slows down and you want to revert, you can reinstall in the fraction of the time. Have a complete turn around from slow Windows to brand new in about 20 - 30 minutes.
In the case of keeping things "New", just clean / dust the inside and outside of your PC and generally be tidy with your files. It's all down to what you personally like, I don't find any programs will make your "computer" stay fast. Just think about what you install, keep stuff tidy, more programs, more resources.
Run CCleaner regularly (on Windows), defrag mechs once a month (on Windows), never use start-up programs, and don't install the shit that a lon of people do, like the super intrusive "anti-virus" software that slows everything down.
install a good virus scanner, also install malwarebytes anti malware free, and use spybot S&D against spyware, if you runn thos scanners, few times a week, you will keep your computer clean.
