I've apparently been spoiled by Linux's epic hardware compatibility. Right now I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to install windows. The problem is that my raid 1 array isn't showing up.
Windows 8.1 Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2 Ports 1-4 set to raid mode Created the raid1 mirror in the option ROM Loaded the driver in the installer No drives still :(
I'm sure there is a super effective combo move to configure the bios. I'm suspecting that the problem is I'm booting the installer in uefi mode. Any one solved this puzzle before and remember how?
I remember having an issue while installing windows where I didn't format the drive to NTFS. I don't know if that pertains to your problem but it may help.
I tried everything I could without success. Ended up just going back to ahci mode and using only one drive. Disappointing.
Now I'm finding windows to be such a major pain I'm not sure it's worth sticking with. When my displays go to sleep, all the windows get rearranged, some programs get closed, my audio output changes, volumes get set to max. I'm not able to change certain file and protocol associations either, even with the registry editor (keys only can be changed by "TrustedInstaller"). I'll keep on trying to beat Windows into submission for now, but coming from Linux where I never had problems with such basic things, I can't say I'm impressed. People actually consider this usable?
I mean its not like I'm the only one that's run into these problems. My searching for solutions has confirmed that. Anyone else run into these roadblocks? Share your wisdom if you found a solution or just share your pain :)
That's what I did. @Taco_Bell Including that one. @Kiaxa
I'm pretty sure the raid issue wouild have been resolved if I had created an installer that could boot in legacy mode, but I could only make a uefi one without having to go through a bunch of extra work. Not having the raid is the least disappointing of all the problems, honestly.
It wasn't formatted or partitioned at all, just a blank array. The installer couldn't find any disks at all, so I didn't have the option to partition even.
Press F6 during install and load the driver that way rather than doing it at drive select. Also run the shell and use disk part to do an GPT format Use this guide but change convert MBR to convert GPT. I experienced similar problems when installing 8.1 and I found you need all the prep work done before the disk select screen. 8.1 is a pain -_-
