How to hack WPA/WPA2 using BackTrack 5.5 R3

So i am trying to learn how to use backtrack and how to hack etc. Not maliciously of course......

I just wanted to ask is anyone could give me a noobs step by step tutorial for how to hack WPA and WPA 2 security codes. I am open to most things but i would rather use what is already in BackTrack such as dictionary attacks.

I am running it all on a VM Ware Virtual Machine if this makes any difference.

So far i have been using this video but i get stuck

I get stuck at the airmon command it doesn't show and interfaces that i can use.

Thanks for the help

If the router has WPS enabled you can exploit it with Reaver. I'd suggest using Kali though, it's newer.

kali is a shit though.

The problem is that in a virtual machine it wont see the interface, so you have two options to overcome this.

Option One,

Get a wireless USB adaptor that you can put in monitor mode

Option Two

Provided that your hardware supports been put into monitor mode, you can create a live usb and boot from that allowing you to use the relevant programs.

Care to expand? You're not really widening my knowledge with a statement void of reasoning.

I wrote a program that flawlessly guided you through running the commands to get reaver to attack susceptible wifi signals. I haven't found it in quite some time, but I would love to either search for it or recode it and get it back to you.

Alright a quick search through gmail and I found some partial code. Not entirely sure if this was the finished version but it appears correct:

Thanks for that, i shall give it a try when i next can, Thanks

NP mate. Best of luck.

Go with Kali Linux; Backtrack whereas it is a great OS it is outdated and Kali has taken over it's spot.

Another Note since you are trying to learn Pen Testing; it can't do WPA/WPA2 Brute, but if you have a rooted android phone I would suggest DSploit so you can do mobile MITM attacks and connect to computers and use a file service to send files over IP; for that I recommend on android X-Plore because it has WiFi Share, SSH, and FTP. These are great learning tools because they have easy interfaces. If you want to understand the basis of how it's all working I suggest trying that route.
