How much do you spend on your setup in a year?

I quit smoking 4 years ago. That alone freed up nearly all the budget that I spend on the PC now.
I don't drink alcohol (at all) either. Plenty of people spend well over $2K per year in the pub and all they get in return are headaches and eventually liver problems (assuming they don't kill themselves and/or someone else while driving drunk first). I'd rather spend that kind of money on the PC.

too much...

Been 3 years since I got it.. First year was the initial build and accessories (mech keyboard, good mouse, 3 monitors, etc) totalling about $2k USD. Second year was a cooler upgrade, 4k monitor, smaller case and motherboard totalling $1k. This year was a graphics card upgrade, headphones +amp/dac, switching to a different cooler because silence, and a new chair...Might be at like another $1k this year.. No wonder all my money's gone.

That's just my desktop, too... That's not including the $600 I dropped on my NAS this year, the $100 on the projector this year, the $2500 Mac 2 years ago + money I've dropped on cables and stuff for it so far, and I need another keyboard for my NAS/pi soon because my friend broke the other one I was using. Might just scrounge around my house at this rate..

Welcome to broke college student land. $9200 over the past couple years of my own money on all kinds of tech. Rip me.

Bought my laptop 6 years ago for 700 euros. So yeah. Do your math, fellas. Planning to get my first decent computer next year hopefully.

I spent around 150€ this year which was only peripherals. I would spend more if i had a stable income.

Spent around 300€ last year I believe.

Have an AM2+ system. Friend had a Phenom II x6 1090t laying around so he gave it to me free. Except I was still using the stock cooler for older athlon, so i bought a Hyper 212 Evo $25.
Later 1TB Hard Drive started failing so bought a 240Gb ssd for 60$.
Was feeling sad about 6gb of ram so i bought 2x2Gb ddr2 for 30$ that wasn't compatible with my current 2x2 gb so that just went to another system that's not even being used... Abandoned that idea and decided to wait for Zen or something.
Was looking for PSU to later upgrade GPU and stuff since i was using the Raidmax psu that came with the case 9 years ago and bro found a EVGA 750 GQ for about 55$ on amazon.
So total so far this year is about.. $170ish not counting tax and shipping.

Yeah I spend stuff all, still running an E8400/P5K system w/ HD5770 (upgraded from 8800GT when that died).
I have to pick and choose which games, and obviously can't crank graphics up, but most stuff I want to play still runs on medium settings. It's now a 9 year old system, wife got me headset and mouse a couple of years ago; I'd say less than $300/yr.
Waiting to see what Zen does.

I spent much more last year than this year.

Off the top of my head in 2015:

  • Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming: £290
  • Corsair RM1000i £140
  • WD Red 1TB £41
  • Asus PB287Q 28 4K monitor £372 (I really regret this purchase, should've got either a variable refresh rate 1440p monitor or another ultrawide at a high resolution than my current one)
  • Computer Chair £73
  • Intel 7260HMWDTX1.R Wireless PCIe Card £37
  • Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB £58

Which totals: £1011

That was stuff for my main machine. I also bought an AM1 system which was around £90 in total which I use as my pfSense router and an J1800 System which was also around £90 which I use as my server.

In 2016 I haven't spent nearly as much:

  • Noctua NH-D15 for around £70
  • Phanteks PRO M £57
  • Masterkeys Pro S for £106
  • AmazonBasics Dual Side-by-Side Monitor Arm £135 (got this on prime day)
  • Tek Syndicate Mouse and PCB Mouse Pad £45
  • Status Audio CB-1s £60
  • SMSL M2 DAC £47
  • Hectron X1 Series 240GB SSD £44

Which totals: £564

May have been some stuff I've forgot about, I did buy some networking gear (switches, PCIe NICs, etc) and some other stuff not worth mentioning.

Also, most of the high price items in 2015 were mostly bought using birthday/xmas money such as the 4K monitor and GTX 970, as well as the computer chair. The Masterkeys Pro S in 2016 was also bought with birthday money so they were essentially gifts at least in part.

In 2014 I spent £364.74 on an i5 4690k, 8GBs of memory and my ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark 2. I also bought my LG 25UM65-P 25" ultrawide monitor for £170, some crap Thermaltake case for around £35 and a WD blue for £40 ish. That was pretty much all I spent on hardware that year.

Too damn much.
"I should totally get a wireless card! 802.11ac, baby!"
I used wired ethernet at all times. But hey, airdrop works...

Dont go there lol if I even remotely said the number there would be a lot of jealous folks

my average to date is $380/year
from 2012 till now
(this doesn't count the games I have spent money on lol)

For me, depends on the year ( I try not to make purchases all the time, but you know)

But probably around $500-1000 a year, although tbh its usually just GPUs and storage mediums, this last year was kind of an exception

I usually spend around 500CAD. It's either a new case + complete set of fans and storage or a new graphics card
