How Final Cut became the standard in Hollywood?

I sent this question to Logan a while back and didnt get a response so I was wondering if anyone here had any comments or opinons on it...im just going to paste the question below

This question could end up having a very convoluted answer but I was wondering if you know the story as to how Apple's Final Cut Pro became the standard in Hollywood.  I have a friend who is majoring in film editing and he mainly uses final cut for his video work and always talks about how everyone uses it..  What sets a MAC running Final Cut apart from PC workstations running Premiere, Vegas, or AVID?  I've heard that most of Hollywood using Final Cut was part of some kind of business deal with Apple.  I've also heard various complaints saying Apple doesn't update the software and that the rendering engine is very slow in comparison to other editing software causing a good number of editors to abandoned it.. Since I know you mention somewhere in your mountains of videos that you have done that you once did a lot of video editing as well as being photographer using photo editing and creation software(another place where it seems Apple is the standard) I figure you'd know more about this since you have worked in that part of the industry and are well informed as to what your colleagues use or have used in the past.  While I'm not at expert on any of these systems I have messed around with all the software and I don't quite understand why Final Cut is considered the end all be all in the video editing world.

I wasn't under the impression that Hollywood uses Final Cut Pro for the majority of their production. This question is also kind of difficult to answer because what software you use depends on the type of movie you are making and what kind of effects you do or don't implement into the movie. Regardless, for pretty much any high-production movie there will be multiple standalone programs used for creating certain aspects of the film. There isn't really any magical application that can "do it all" for a high-production film, I mean yeah you probably could create a movie with a single editing application but you'd be severely limiting what your movie could have been.

Here's an analogy, when you build a house, there isn't any single tool that can construct every aspect of the house, you're going to need a lot of different tools for constructing different aspects of the house. Although you probably could build a house with a single tool, your house would be severely limited compared to what it could be and probably not very good... .-.

Plus Final Cut pro is only Like adobe premire it is ment for large video projects for sound and video though it has some great compositing features it really can't Do VFX like a compositing program such as After Effects or Nuke. RH00D is correct indeed 3D programs are used for 3D objects and characters, Sound programs like Pro tools is used for sound, music, Sfx, then for Scenic renders use Vue or terraga gen then programs like speed tree for mass forestsor foliage the list goes on Research into such matters would help you greatly.
