My question for Logan, Pistol, Quain(I hope I spelled that right), Wendell, or anyone who has insight or knowledge on the topic, is this: In the simplest way of explaining this, how can you get fiber to your house/neighborhood/city?
I currently have Time Warner. I am paying for 30megs, and for the past 3 weeks I have been doing internet speed tests. The highest speed I got was 13mbps at 4 o'clock in the morning. The lowest I got was 0.09mbps at 6 p.m. This is atrocious. Of course, when I called customer service, they basically said it was something on my end. Yeah, ok. I built my own router out of a quad core machine with 8gb of ddr2 ram. I even replaced my modem.
MY QUESTION MAINLY PERTAINS TO GETTING GOOGLE FIBER TO MY AREA.
You cant do anything by yourself. Start up a social campaign, get people involved. You need lots of people to get a company like google to hear you, you also need to be in a state where they wont be banned from competing because comcast and TW own a lot of politicians.
I live in Upstate NY. Time Warner cable and Verizon are the only ISPs in my area. I suppose I can walk around and inform people about what Fiber Optic is and how the ISPs are sucking every last penny out of us before they are forced to upgrade their infrastructure kicking and screaming. If time warner cable "own" a lot of politicians and it is technically banned then these politicians are misrepresenting us. Give the people what they want and stop forcing unwanted garbage down their throats.
