How do I fix my missing desktop?

After a resent update the computer will boot into windows also letting me log in but not bring up the desktop.

I can still access some tools through keyboard shortcuts like bringing up task manager etc but apart from that the screen remains completely black.

Any advice on what to do would be appreciated and i will post if i find a solution myself.

windows repair cd?

what happens when you do new task/explorer in task manager? Can you not undo the update or roll back or some junk? I miss having problems like these :(

I don't have a repair CD when i got it last year it was just a direct download from Microsoft upgrading from W7

Does windows explorer show up as a running "app" in task manager? The cheap (wrong and backward) way would be to run it as a scheduled task if not.

Thanks it doesn't show up no, i will look into it.

You can run it and it loads explorer.exe though right?

Can use it to launch programs like media ect but won't launch explorer (not even an error)

Tried booting from a disk i found couldn't even load disk

It's an old PC anyway
