How do i diagnose a dead Motherboard?

Having issues with my media PC.

It just randomly shut off, when i reboot it doesn't post, just a blank screen. But the CPU fan spins at full speed.

I 1st though it was a bad connector and when I had a look at the mobo half of the 8 pin CPU power wasn't in all the way so I fixed that but was really hard. Had to use a screw driver to push it in.

Still get no post.

I have tried with, no GPU,HDD still nothing. Put in working RAM in different slots, even tried another CPU and power supply.

I have reset the CMOS

Its a P5N32-SLI Deluxe, with a Core2Quad

sounds pretty dead to me.... bugger eh.

I concur sounds pretty dead, RMA

If you have already changed out all parts minus the board then the board is the broken piece.

Are you sure that you don't have the P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe? The "SE" was re-modelled for Conroe support. The original board doesn't support Core 2.

Yeah sorry its a P5N32-E SLI Plus.

Taking it out today to test if it was shorting out on the case.

RMA or plop a new processor in to see if maybe its the processor vs motherboard... But yeah I would RMA that

Can't RMA its 10 years old.

Swapped in a pentium 4 and noticed it wasn't even warm, so I ran it without a heat sink and my finger on it, just stayed cold.

motherboard then... Because you know that CPU was functioning.. as of diagnosing which component is failed... there is no way.. its shot..Unfortunatley your gonna need to get a new motherboard :(

Looks like your memory controller just gave up the ghost. It was a common problem with the 650i chipset, and I use to RMA a lot of those boards back to Asus when they first came out. If it lasted this long, then that board had a long and healthy life.

It could also be the power supply, check that before replacing the board.

Are you sure it's not your power supply?

As per the OP:

"even tried another CPU and power supply"

That part of the troubleshooting has already been covered.

When I was a telco tech you fault tested things with modular swap outs that where the most likely culprit.

As a PC hobbyist all the spares I have and they are many are old and outdated :(

So when I my PC starts getting HICUP's I dont have spare CPU's / memory and MB's to swap out except for what's in use. My last system started playing up and corrupting itself.

I had to just bit the bullet and get a new MB / CPU and RAM since there where all 4-5 years old. Im still thinking of using the CPU again since its a Q6600 quad core winner and would make a nice Freenas server. Still dont knpow if its the MB or CPU thats dodgy. I re-purposed the RAM and its working fine. I suspect it was the MB.

Yep! Sounds dead to me, too! Bummer!!!! :o/

If i had the money I would do that. But just need to keep an eye out for a cheap 2nd hand one.

Thanks for the help knew there wasn't much hope.
