Hey this might sound like a noob question.
I don't want a answer like "use your ears"
But if I try one sound card then another, is there anything I can do specifically that will let me know which one is better besides listening to them?
Also when buying a sound card what are the most important things to look for and what separates a Media/Entertainment Card From a Gaming Card?
Thanks for all the help!
jesus christ dude, if your ears cant tell the difference why the fuck would you want a sound card in the first place!?
Sound is something you hear...
You have to hear which one is better.
You cant "bench" the soundcard and it gets good score and the sound is shit, nono.
Are you guys stupid?
I was just asking what would make someone choose one sound card over another.
If theres two sound cards on a website and your trying to pick between the two
how could you tell which one is better?
if there both rated the same in reviews how would you know which one is a better card.
I'm sure there are certain aspects that make a good sound card good and a bad sound card bad.
- Then you ask logan..
i'm not a sound card guy, but my cousin says to make sure it's a true 24-bit sound card and not one that emulates it. (like the creative x-fi)
Usually if it is specified for certain tasks. Soundblasters or Creative cards usually hang around the Gaming area. but are pretty expensive. Some others like Asus Sonar benefit from movies, home theater, stuff like that. Also, it would help if you have nicer speakers. Bose....
yea, better make sure you got some nice THX certified speakers if you want a sound card.

Thank you!
Thats the type of information im looking for lol.
And I have the pc350 senheiser headset it was $225 so a good sound card would go nicely.
i hope you realize i was saying not to get the creative x-fi though LOL
but yea, just try to see what they can do number wise.. i really couldn't give you a good choice if you asked me. so yea.. also, logan made a thread about a couple sound cards he's used, so try to search for them.

If all you're going to use is headphones, get a headphone amp. Most are external, but Asus makes a PCI one.
I guess he couldn't "hear" the fail when he started the thread.
Thats just stupid Sty1ez
Thats just stupid GreenSLi
I have no idea why you think this is a bad thread.
Im just asking what makes a good sound card good and what makes a bad sound card bad.
If you seen two boxes and all they had on them was specs what would you know too look at to determine which one to get?
Max output of your sound card in hertz w/ max output in our speakers in hertz
If your speakers are below your sound card, you won't notice shit.
If you experience an eargasm, then it's a good soundcard. Or you could be listening to The Beatles or something. But it's probably the audio.
