How can i REPLACE explorer.exe?

Hey, im trying to install a new explorer.exe file inside of C:\Windows... i've tried to Take Ownership (that registry value button....) and nothing will work, it just says "LOL YOU NEED PERMISSION TO DO THIS, FUCK OFF!" (well, not that but you get the point) and i can't do anything with it... any ideas?

Nope, no ideas. <-------Nonconstructive comment

Any time buddy.

um...try it as administrator?

noooop, can't even touch it.

safe mode?

Im not sure if you can exactly remove it, i know a program called emergedesktop that replaces explorer.exe and it uses what ever their program uses. its much more customiziable once you get the hang of it. If i were going to use it again id make another useraccount on my pc and screw around with that first. You can get it at http://emergedesktop.org If you do that, you might be able to even replace their new explorer.exe with yours.

Explorer.exe = Windows

I'm not sure why you would want to get rid of that, but yeah, go see Murph's link if you want more options.

won't let me touch it. even if i stopped explorer.exe...

no Rice, all im trying to do is REPLACE it. i understand what it is and what it does... i know the specific file i want to replace it with, but i don't know how to do so...

If you want to replace it... get Linux?

You can't really replace Windows with another OS unless you actually do replace Widnows with another OS.

nononono... this explorer.exe file has a new shutdown button similar to windows 7's. im not trying to replace a operating system, im trying to change the look of one i already have INSTALLED.

Lol I tried doing that :P

I tried running vista explorer in windows 7 or something, but i couldn't delete explorer, so i just stopped it and ran it from another location; but said it was an invalid win32 app or something =P

Maybe there's something you could tweak in the registry to change the default explorer path or something?

NO it can not, in reality booting a live CD and replacing it would work 100%

Try this (it uses linux) go to google and type in ubuntu then go download the live CD, then burn it and set your BIOS to boot from CD and boot from it, choose "Install Ubuntu" and it will take you to a desktop with the option to install linux, just go to file manager and move the file, replacing the Explore.EXE =] hope this helps

Removing the explorer.exe is like asking for trouble ... get-linux lol
