How can I make my in-ear-headphones less bass heavy?

I know bass is an extreme must have for many people, and they want lots of it, but I’m just not used to it. I used to like it but there’s something I don’t like about bass heavy headphones anymore ever since using my Jaybird X2s for a while.

Here’s my problem, I used to use the foam ear buds that came with my X2s, they were made by Comply, and they are by far the most comfiest ear tips I have ever used. After a few months of owning these headphones, one of my cat chewed on them, thank god the cable is intact, but a really bad whole was left in one earpiece and both Comply eartips were wripped.

So I went online to buy more.
£10 for 3 pairs made by Comply, or a pack of 5 Inairs air2’s for about £6. I chose the cheaper option, which I now regret because I don’t really like them.

They are made of a more sealed off material which I believe is why I’m getting so much bass, whilst my comply ear tips were a lot less sealed off material. Another thing I hate about these new ear tips, is the seal makes my ear feel like it’s being sacked inside out.

I don’t know what to do… Anyone have any innovative ideas? I was thinking of puncturing holes in the ear tips… Or cutting a chunk out of them…

I got a set with my in-ears. The more bass heavy has the smallest hole, the more descant pronounced ones have a wider hole. I don't know if this can help you, but maybe get some that are made like this?

My Comply ones have bigger holes than the in-airs and happen to not be so bass heavy.
I have a feeling its just the density of the in-airs.

Think of 2 sponges, one is easier to squeze and therefore, returns to its original shape quickly (Comply).

Now the other sponge is harder to squeeze and takes longer to return to its original shape (In-airs)

I think thats the main problem here. I`m going to try and puncture one a good few times with a needle in an attempt to make it return shape quicker, and therefor lose more base out of the headphones. I think this will cause more sound leak however.

Thanks very much for the reply though.
