How bad is EA's Origin?

I'm a big football (soccer) fan and since switching to PC I have missed FIFA so I wanna get it. The only other option is PES, which is on Steam, but sadly that series has gone downhill. The thing is all I hear about Origin is how awful it is. So what's so terrible about it?

Ive not had any problems with Origin. I bought my game, I downloaded my game, I played my game. Friends list is fine, nothing wrong as far as im concerned

Except for the 100 person cap on that list. Last time I checked they haven't removed it yet. Makes it a pain in the ass when I play with or against different clans. Or even different groups of people.

I survived 4 years on the 360 with 100 friends so it dont phase me. I could see the downfall with it though although I couldnt see it being a wide spread problem.

As bad as it can get. I still can't add one of my friends because of a known but still unfixed bug. When i purchased BF3 it wouldn't connect to any servers no matter what i did, turns out i had to wait about 12 hours for Origin to update my key to battlelog or some sh**.  When i tried to install it on my secondary rig it crashed after an update and could only reinstall it after registry modding. That being said i've had friends with more problems than me and friends with no problems.

Just avoid it and pirate their games until they go bankrupt. Oh wait that won't ever happen.

As much as i hate EA, i hope that doesn't happen cause i hate Activision even more.

I never works on a consumers computer everytime I'm there, steam has its days, but its days, not entire weeks at a fucking time it doesn't want to go online or fucking work

On a scale of 0-10 I would say 11, I mean common launching games in a browser. The way its built makes it hard to run the games on linux in something like wine as well, they probably could have designed it differently so that would not be an issue, but they just don't care.

Look I am not going to endorse it or anything, I don't want to get anyone including teksyndicate in trouble or anything, but I will say that there are other unofficial ways that technically allow you to play their games without using origin or any of their DRM.

Feel it is appropriate to share the icon I use for Origin now.

As for OP, yes they're that bad.  However since your a sports game fan you've little choice, and EA knows it.

Unfortunately, Fifa on PC doesn't come with the new Ignite game engine. Fifa 14 plays a lot like Fifa 13, and we don't have access to any of the new legends. We don't have any of the latest Madden games, either.

It's unfortunate. I did have a lot of fun with Fifa 14 previously. I still play it from time to time. I will say this, EA games have a habit of making me rather sour faced. The fact that BF4 is broken, and really shit in design; Fifa 14 is without the Ignite engine, when PCs are much more capable than consoles; all the games are expensive, they don't treat us well.

There are ways to pay a much more agreeable price. I will never pay full price for a fucking EA game lol. It's sad that I cannot drag myself away...

Well I bit the bullet and went with Origin. I have to say I can't quite see where all the hate for it comes from as a Windows user, but perhaps that will reveal itself in time. And don't worry Berserker, I wasn't gonna buy it from the Origin store at £40. Got a key off ebay for £15.

Does PES use the Ignite engine? I read a review that said that even though the gameplay was so-so, it looks much better than FIFA. Although to my eyes having only played FIFA on console, it looks quite lovely on PC.

£15 is more than reasonable. Let me crush you on Fifa?

And I don't personally hate Origin. It kinda works. I'm more inclined to use Steam, and through frequent use, I get familiar with all of Steam's problems.

Final point, the Ignite engine has improved mechanics. It's less about the graphics. It was just a rebrand of Fifa 13, which made PC gamers feel a bit robbed. Never tried any of the recent PES games.

I'll play you and you will definitely crush me as I'm very rusty. My only condition is that neither of us use Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern. I've played those teams way too many times online before. Sometimes I like to be a hipster and pick teams from the Chilean leagues and what-not, just to keep it fresh. My Origin name is: skamleech.

I should also warn you that I live out in the sticks so my connection can be a bit laggy sometimes, but I rarely have disconnection issues. That being said I've only played online on the console, so I don't know if it will be different on PC.

Turn on your invites lol. Edit: origin was being a dick. Sent.

And I don't personally use those teams. I was hoping to use my gold ultimate team against your bronze starting line up!

I never really got into the Ultimate Team thing. I know it's the most popular mode but it just looked like a money sucker to me. When I bought that key last night on ebay, I saw a Robben TOT card (dunno what the fuck tot means) and the bids were over £85! I like the idea of the legends though. It would be awesome to play as Zizou with those sweet Predator Accelerators.

In ultimate mode, you earn in-game currency. There is a pay-to-win issue, but it's fun starting with cheap reliable players and earning the top players through organic means. No need to put money into it. Not only that, but there's single player leagues and tournaments.

Legends are not available on PC. But we do get Team of the Year etc. They are in-form cards. Giving the best stats for particular players that earn them in the real world sport. It's the best part of Fifa, in all honesty. Makes the game much more rewarding.

I gave it a little go on console and I just tried to build the Dortmund squad, but I lost interest pretty quickly. I might give it another go, but I prefer to play as real teams rather than fantasy teams so used to play seasons quite a lot. The pro clubs online are fun too, when you're not playing with selfish midgets with afros.

haha! too true. Started with the Dortmund squad. I have a pretty good Dortmund-Munich hybrid team. Need Ribery to have a good rotation for left midfield. Sold Robben to purchase packs but didn't turn up anything worthwhile.

Even if I did start getting into UT at this point wouldn't I be way too under-levelled? The games been out a long time now so it might be hard finding a decent match-up.
