Ok so we all remember that video were all those famous sports, movies and interwebz people showed off a pretty pink mattel hoverboard straight out of the old Back to the Future movie.
Well this morning IGN posted this article http://au.ign.com/articles/2014/10/21/hoverboards-are-real which provided an actual link to a real company and kickstarter here http://www.arxpax.com
It seems legit but I want to know what you all think, facepalm or beard stroking?
The big caveat is that it can only hover over very specific material so the applications would be very limited. I could imagine there being a dedicated skate park that's built out of copper but trying to use that on the street would be pretty pointless. Where I'd see the biggest benefit would be lining a warehouse floor with that material to make effortlessly handling large and heavy materials that much easier.
Yeah. It's just maglev. Needs a conductive surface in order to work. While cool, it can't be used in the wild. Sadly, we're still waiting for someone to develop some sort of matter repulser engine, or an efficient thruster/ionic lift type mechanic to make hoverboards a reality.
