I'm going to build a pfsense router and I need to know what's the minimum cpu spec.- I'm going to build a "pc" from old parts and I don't want to pay more than I need to.
I'm using a pentium 3 box with just a few NIC's thrown in. All you need is a hard drive, box, 2-3 NIC's, you're good.
Thanks!
They don't specify what kind of Intel or AMD cpu though. 1 core, 2, 3, 4?
And since it's based on FreeBSD, here's the harware compatibility list.

And those are way overrated. For instance my Intel C1037u 1.6 GHz does 500 mbit easily although I do not use Squid nor Snort. However I do run it in a transparent setup. So yeah in short it pays to use new cheap hardware like J1900 or Braswell. those use about as much power than medium to high end consumer routers.
