Just finished a new x79 build and the new I7 3930k processor runs extremely hot on a full load.
I am using a new Corsair H80 and at full load i'm hitting 63c.
At first i thought may be I messed up with the thermal past but after checking it and applying new paste same temps.
Before anyone asks I'm using Artic Silver 5 which is excellent.
Is this normal?
That's not hot at all! In fact, those temperatures are very good... but just so you know Arctic Silver 5 is actually quite crap compared to newer stuff.
what is the newer stuff?
Welcome,
to the new stage of enthusiast hardware.
We make sure that you won't freeze throughout the upcoming winter.
Best regards,
Intel.

Welcome,
to the boring old age of standard hardware.
We make sure your CPUs are slow in order to stop them overheating.
Best regards,
AMD.
Move to Siberia and leave the window open. That should solve your problem. Other than that you could try turning down the turbo core witchcraft in the BIOS. Or it could be that your cooler is defective (my guess is not enough coolant).
Edit: What temperature is your house at? because that pretty much changes everything.
is that stock? seems okay to me, for Intel at least, and whats this newer stuff?
That seems pretty hot for stock speeds, but it is new hardware, so that might just be normal.

Best thermal paste out there is probably between Tuniq TX-4 and Arctic Cooling MX-4.
OCZ Freeze is my fav. but its fucked up to apply it. I use noctua's thermal paste atm.
60c+ on MAX load is just normal.

That's normal for stock speeds? I would think that would be normal for an overclock.
The processor is running at 3.8 on full load and drops down to 1.4 on idle.
On idle i'm getting 24c
Makes very much sense @ 3.8 ghz.
Going to that platform soon aswell, though I dont really feel like I need to, my setup is still pretty top notch on performance. :]
Those temperatures are fine.
Want better?
Stop using baby water cooling and buy the real shit, or just get a proper heatsink. These corsair units aren't as good as everyone likes to pretend they are.

Well after the whole Bulldozer thing i decided to go to Intel.
I sold my Asus crosshair 5 motherboard for what i paid or it and figured might as well go to the x79 since soon the pci 3.0 will be kicking in with the new GPU's due out soon.
Loved the fact at the amount of ram that is available on these boards since i am constantly multitasking with video editing graphics and music sound effect creation.
The speed of the intel i7 3930 blows bulldozer out of the sand.

True but never used a water cool system and am kinda of hesitant.
But I am going to go water soon but first i will do it on my crosshair 3 pc so i can get some experience and feel more at ease !!

They are pretty alright with the right fans.
The plan for me was to go custom loop, but fuckit, this thing works just as fine. Too much hassle if you change hardware twice a year

you're not going to see the advantage of PCI-E 3.0 anytime soon with a GPU, just PCI-E SSDs. You gonna be mad if the windows scheduler update comes out and bulldozer turns out to kick SB-Es ass?

They promise up to 10% better performance with the upcoming hot-fix.
It's good to see the problem lies in Microsofts poor hardware support, and not the hardware itself.
UNIX systems runs much better with Bulldozer / x86 computing, than Intels new 2011 CPUs.
As mentioned: The way to make your compy run cooler are:
(1) Get a real water cooling system.
(2) Make your computer slower.
(3) Move to somewhere really cold and just leave your beloved piece of machinery out there in the freezing cold. (my personal choice)
I wouldn't sweat it though unless you have your computer doing protein folding 24/7 (if that's the case you get a real LCS).
