I just saw [this] video from newegg, and it's kind of shaken my view on what video card I want for my new computer. I was planning on a Gigabyte 7970 (This one). The [HIS] is on sale on Newegg for only 20$ more than the Gigabyte (Plus shipping). Can someone a little more savvy than I compare the two and see if that's worth it, or if I should jump at the sale, or maybe just stick with the Gigabyte? Thanks guys.
you wanna go with the his 7970 it is a way better over clocker for the price thats pretty darn good
They're both 7970s? Did you even read the op?
is you c the spec you will see the hsi one says "ghz adition" which mean extra overclock
I ordered that one after my HIS 7970 (not GHZ) showed coil whine & bad VRAM during stress testing. It should be here today so I will let you know how it goes. Hoping my first card from them was just an anomaly. Before the issues manifested I was really impressed with the temps it maintained due to the over designed cooler. It helps that looks great in my rig....:)
If you can snag a ghz for $20 more than a standard 7970, then that's a steal. The 7970ghz closes the gap between the 680 and 7970 considerably. I'd buy it.
HIS is a better video card company in general. They have better build quality than Gigabyte, and their IceQ cooler is going to be a much better cooler. Not to mention that they have a better power delivery system on the HIS card which will allow for higher overclocks. The HIS is also factory overclocked, but that's not really a big deal since you can manually overclock any card to the same speed.
I'd go with HIS just because the cooler is much more robust, and you'll be able to overclock higher.
The HIS 7970 Ghz seems to be fast and stable. Still stress testing so far but it seems to be a good buy. Nice speed & temps.
Well I waited too long and now it's $460. But It looks like they added Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite for free. Still worth it?
