High temps with h100i

Hey, Im getting higher temps than i expected with me new h100i, I have a 3770k @ 4.2 Ghz and get loads temps of 72c Does't this seem high for a h100i? Did i seat the cooler wrong? Should I lap the bottom of the pump?

Also Would it be worth getting a seconds pair of fans and putting it in push pull?

make sure its properly seated, maybe its not touching a certain part of the CPU, lapping the bottom will help, make sure not to damage it, or else you're screwed :)

edit: if you just bought it, withing a 7 days, just go return it, i had a 660ti that ran at 90*C, i was like WTF?, so i drove back to the store, and exchanged it for another, and boom, 30*C :)

sometimes new stuff doesnt work, and it sucks when you're so exited for that new part

Push pull doesn't really do much, explained in a linustechtips video it's better to have pull so when there's dust build-up you can just swipe your rad with a cloth clean.

 

I'm not sure what your case is like, but maybe add some more intake fans for more airflow?

Make sure your pump is running at full speed. Does it change when your fans are faster or slower? What are the temps at stock compared to overclocked? You could be running too much voltage for that chip to get rid of the heat fast enough for your given overclock. The Ivy bridge cpus have a thermal paste connecting the chip to the heatspreader instead of direct solder so they are more prone to high temps than the i-X 2XXX processors.

Your voltage and ambient temps matter here. Telling us a temperature without listing your ambient temps that the system is exposed makes your temp itself useless to us. Are you 14c ambient? 40c? We have no idea if your temps are normal for your location because of this. Your speed listed isnt as useful either since you dont list the voltage which contributes a lot more to heat output than speed alone. Running 1.4v is going to make that thing a nuclear reactor.

it depends on your ambient temps, im getting low 60's on a 4.3 oc on a 3570k in about a 20c room 

While you're lapping the bottom of the pump, I would suggest using Arctic Cooling MX-4 instead of the old Arctic Silver 5 stuff. You can actually lap the top of the CPU too if you're careful.

Keep in mind that Ivy Bridge CPUs run around 10 degrees hotter than Sandy Bridge when overclocked.

My 3970X goes up to around 56C when in Skyrim @ 4.5GHz. Maybe you might have to tinker with the screws a bit. I tightened them on mine up securely, so didn't have any problem with overheating.

With the Artic Silver stuff you have something like a 200hr set time. When you first apply it you shou;dn't overclockitall too much because the paste is expanding and settingunderthe block so it can cool better. Also you might be putting a little too much in the way of volts. Try toning down the voltage on it but trying to keep the same clock speed. Voltage it what relly kills your temps not as much clock speed. 

I always forget about the cure time on AS5. I've been using AC MX-4 for a while now, and it doesn't have a cure time.

Yeah the cure time is really annoying. I set up the majority of a system and just thrw some prts in to make sure that the mobo and cpu worked and then I just let it sit around for about a month before I used it again. High temps were high. :( Overall I enjoy Tuniq TX-4 the most. Although MX-4 is a veryclose second. 

well don't use lapping and IHS mod with the i7 3770k because the block of the H100i does not connect propper to get better results...
