High-end PC build, recommendations/feedback!

Hello all!

I am brand new to the forum and just wanted to say thanks for checking out my post and i'm sure I'll get a lot of feedback from you guys.

So, I am a semi-new computer builder, I have built 2 machines in the past, but both were <$500 machines. I am in the process of building a very high end computer. I have spend hours and days of research and have looked at multiple reviews on a lot of product reviews from tek syndicate, hardware canucks, linus tech tips, etc.

Here's what I have so far...

Chassis: Corsair Obsidian 750D Black ATX (http://tinyurl.com/nyr6cwv)

Graphics Card: EVGA Geforce GTX 780 SC with ACX Cooler (http://tinyurl.com/pusovyl)

PSU: Corsair AXi series AX1200i 80 Plus Platinum (http://tinyurl.com/9349gko)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16gb (2x8) 1866 DDR3 (http://tinyurl.com/mjc5lbe)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k 3.5GHz Quad Core (http://tinyurl.com/lb7s7k2)

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero LGA 1150 (http://tinyurl.com/ovex6yk)

OS: Windows 8.1 (http://tinyurl.com/mn4gjsk)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master 212 EVO (http://tinyurl.com/dyasx75)

SSD/HDD: OCZ Vertex 460 120GB/1TB Western Digital (http://tinyurl.com/lywtqbk)

Accessories:

Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Mechanical Keyboard (http://tinyurl.com/mp2g8xr)

Mouse: Corsair Vengeance M65 Laser with matching MM400 Mouse Mat (http://tinyurl.com/dx4eg62)

Monitor: Haven't done enough research, but I would like an IPS monitor, with at least 5ms response time, and virtual no bezel for a 3 monitor surround display.

So you might have noticed the unusually high wattage on the build provided, but this is just a startup machine. I will build it at first with the parts provided, and in the future, I would like to get a triple, 1080p surround display with 2 gtx 780s in sli. As far as i'm concerned, 1200 watts is need for triple monitors along with 2 way sli. (correct me if i'm wrong)

I would really like some feedback on this build as I am trying to future proof it as much as I can, seeing that this is about a $3000 build. Any feedback on items listed that you guys own would be fantastic and also some monitor recommendations would be great!

Thanks again guys and I look forward to the responses!

My suggestions:

  • Switch the 780 to a 780 Ti (stick with EVGA though) for a performance increase.
  • Maybe switch the OCZ SSD to an Intel or Corsair SSD.
  • 1200 watts is overkill unless you're planning on do water-cooling, multiple drives, overclocking and SLI. The Corsair AX860i will still support SLI and save you money.

Here's something along the lines of what you are looking for. I switched a couple things around to make it a little cheaper, but it satisfies what you're looking for. I kinda just picked the Acer monitors because they were the cheapest monitors with decent ratings for what you have listed. And like A5H said, 1200 watts is overkill unless you're doing tri- or quad-SLI. The 850 watt Seasonic I picked should give you enough juice for the rig and have some extra headroom for fans/lights/whatever.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will most likely be lowering the wattage on my PSU like you both suggested.

The 780 ti upgrade A5H had mentioned is a little more costly but I will see what kind of deal I can get at the time of purchase.

Thanks Wiemerimer for the parts list you provided, definitely gives me a different look on prices/quality, and will most likely take a couple of your suggestions

Thanks again guys! Any other comments or recommendations from other users is always much appreciated!

Ya i would stay away from the TI unless you need to have the biggest... um benchmarks on the block. For practical use the 2 780s are going to already be overkill. Though if the price increase on the 290 and 290xs has come back down to reality by the time you build this thing then maybe look into some of the aftermarket cooled version of those. Some of the benchmarks for them are really impressive and it may be worth picking over the 780.
