High density config memory compatibility for Ryzen 8000G APUs

Near the end of the 8700G and 8600G review, it was mentioned that there would be more testing of high density memory configs for the 8000G APUs in 4 slots. There was also hints of re-testing A620M boards, but my interest isn’t with a locked down A620 on a 6 layer PCB but rather my exact B650M PG Riptide on a 6 layer PCB. It’s been a while and I’ve kinda seen A620 testing set aside. It just so happens that the A620M is a 6 layer PCB but with all the limitations of A620, but the B650 Pro RS ATX board has 8 layers and is not representative of my B650M PG Riptide. I am limited to mATX because my case is the Node 804.

I have questions on whether upcoming 48GB DIMMs at 6000 CL28 would even work on my 6 layer board, or should I just choose a lower density at 32GB per DIMM at the same CL28? (Remember, it’s gonna run on a 8700G, not a regular chiplet CPU)

When the CL28 kits were announced I purposely held off buying memory because I would like to see ideally 48GB DIMMs work on a 6 layer PCB at 6000.

@wendell

These are only speculations based on the specs and previous G parts on AM4: since they’re monolithic the controller should be able to run more speed or higher density with less issues.
For example, the 5700G could run 2000MHz IF most of the times when the 5800X (and cousins) usually max out at 1900MHz on a good day.

So my guess is that an 8700G could run 6000MHz on a 6 layer PCB, but I’m not sure it would run 192GB, not even at 4800MHz.

Well, I currently am searching for low heatspreader height for large air cooling compatibility and unfortunately the Flare X5 series only goes up to CL28 in 2x32GB at the moment. The 2X48 kits with CL28 all use taller heatspreaders.

I’m planning to use a Thermalright Phantom Spirit non-EVO and non-SE since the D15 G2 LBC is overkill for a 8700G even if the system is for 24/7 use.

Well this is sobering. All current 2x48GB Gskill kits (even regular latency CL30) are not QVL certified for ANY B650 boards.

Anyone running 2x48GB on a 4 DIMM 6 layer B650 board with EXPO enabled and stable?

Edit: Ouch. $700CAD for 2x48GB CL26. No thanks, gonna wait for the Flare X5 2x32GB CL28 kit to be listed.
