For the past few years I've been stuck on the same video card (upgrading soon). I've noticed that this card increases my CPU temps by up to 20C, which is ridiculous.
Just the other day I took it out of my case and stuck in an old 7600gt, which resulted in CPU temps of 25C idle. After I put my 9800gt back in, my idle temps skyrocketed to 45C.
Does this make any sense to anyone? Here's a pic of my exact card:

Well that card is going to expel a lot of hot air into the case because of the way the cooling system is set up. A 25 degree difference in idle temperatures seems pretty extreme though.
Yeah, I just ordered another fan to put on the side of my case. Hopefully pushing air right onto the video card will help get rid of the hot air
well, it will make the card run cooler. How's the airflow in your case? What case do you have and what fans do you have installed in it?
Airflow is fine in my case. I have an Antec 300 (two 120mm front intake, one rear 120mm exhaust, one top 140mm exhaust, and soon a 120mm side intake).
Even if I take the side of my case off, the cpu is still hot though :/

Sometimes taking the side panel off of your case can actually hurt temperatures because the air has more space to disperse itself. What CPU do you have?
Oh I see. Well I have that 120mm fan coming along with a new heatsink for my CPU. I'll post again once I have the results :D
I have an i5 760 (stock speed/heatsink)
yeah, those upgrades should help.
I had the smae problem cuz my card runs hot as hell, I solved the problem by mounting a fan on my HDD cage directly in front of my GPU, so it would blow air through the GPU and out the back of my case....if that makes any sense

That's actually a really good idea. If the side fan idea doesn't work I'll probably move it to the HDD cage, thanks!
