High AVG Response Time

We have to wipe some HDD’s there were in a backup storage system before returning the old unit, so that’s been assigned to me. Wiping isn’t the issue, but I have a question.

The drives are Seagate Constellation ST3000NM0033. I pulled it out of the back up unit, plugged it into a little Dell 7060 and started wailing at 'em with a DoD 502 3 pass program.

For curiosity, I was wondering what the usage was like because the last drive took 12.5 hrs connected via an external USB 3 drive enclosure, so I figured connecting directly to the mainboard was be a bit faster.

Anyway, Windows disk usage is of course showing a full 100%, but the Average Response Time is hovering around 500ms and a write of around 185-205 MB/s. That ART seems awfully high to me, considering Seagate’s own paperwork on line says it should be around 4ms - 13ms.

I don’t think that Dell 7060 is bottlenecking it that much.

Anyone?
