Hep meh! trine2 from gog wont launch. going in cirles with libraries. ubuntu-gnome 15.10

after many goings round and round, really trying to learn the shit in linux that i don't know, which i'm sure this is an easy fix, as i've seen my problem solved on many other forums i still just don't get it. it appears that the install comes with lib files that i need to re direct somehow. i've installed a few libs that it requests when i ldd, but when i goto install i get: already installed version or better, or wtfe. and it won't launch. let me back up.

have dl'ed trine2 from gog in a *.sh file. set to executable, installed fine.. goto ~/Games/Trine2/game/ and tried sh trine2.sh and ./trine2.sh both with same results. it also appears in the apps dash/dock w.e and does the same thing as when launching from terminal. from term i get: nohup: redirecting stderr to stdout which, according to the README normal. but nothing happens after. just cursor. okay, now ive drunked up the post and posted before i was finished...heard of whiskey throttle? i just whiskey moused..

editing: specs might be a thing? nvidia gtx560 on 340.xx driver from mamarley ppa as per wendell suggestion a year ago when i jumped ship to linux. it appears that the lib32 files come with the game but its not seeing or directing the launcher correct. supposed to find the libs when launch, but won't launch.

i am trying to learn via posts, really never going back to windoze. but am not getting anywhere. i know yallz KNOW. thank yous.

well, i can't comment on Trine2 per say, but that driver is very old now. Im on 367.27 at the moment.

You can do the following for newer: https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

in terminal ( or software manager ) add:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update

Wait until it's finished ..
Now go into the drivers GUI on ubuntu by typing driver in the menu and you should be presented with some newer choices. Not saying that will fix it but you may aswell get an upto date driver, 358.16 is fine, as i said im on the latest. Don't forget to reboot.

Hey thanks for the response. I had thought about updating the driver, but it was such a PITA to get it working at first that I'm hesitant to touch what ain't broke. When i first switched to linux i tried newer drivers that didn't work. Rolled back and back again till the 340 worked. The gfx card is old too. Idk, the other games i play work fine. Kerbal, Witcher 2, borderlands 2, half life 2 and derivatives, hyper light drifter, although those gfx... Doesn't really count, not sure if that's even using the 3d driver. Usually play oldish games cuz I'm sure the new games will choke badly on the ol beast.
