So a friend of mine was asking where the best place to get a pc for some basic internet usage and streaming of video off the net. I said the best would be to get the parts and put them together, he said he didn't know how. I said it's easy and I'd be happy to help.
So I decided to got with the new AMD APU and an ITX board 8GB RAM and a SSD.
Mobo : Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
CPU : A6 5400k
Memory : 2x 4Gb Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9
PSU : Corsair CX430M
SSD : Samsung EVO 840 120GB
So if people have some suggestions on changes or something I might have missed would be glad to hear.
He was just playing on using an old one. With a little modding it'll work with the smaller sized mobo.
Just going to bump because I need to tell him to order the parts if no one has anything to add.
That processor and motherboard wont work. the processor is a FM2 socket and the motherboard is AM3+
How about something like this?

I don't think 8 gigs is ram is necessary either. Here is another option:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3IsKo - This is a complete system that is more powerful for not much more. It has a fancy case too.... AND it uses less power so there is savings there as well.
Very nice build (the 2nd link). Agree that only 4GB ram is necessary for the intended use. Only thing I would suggest is to go with a single 4GB stick instead so it's easy to add another one later.
The joys of buying parts in New Zealand that get labeled as a AM3+ the A10 are AM3+ correct? AM/Fm it's all just radio frequencies.
Super annoying not being able to easily transfer product details. Should I take the I3 build and spend the time finding the parts or would the A6 build work with the FM2+ Mobo work just as well. Also think of AM3+ as the same as Logan saying Teir 3
I would personally go with the intel build, but that being said... Cash is king. If it is going to cost you a lot more, then forget it. I don't know what the prices are like in NZ. If you link me a NZ you would be shopping from, then I could put something together using those prices.
The other setup will work well enough, but there are some good reasons to choose the intel. If the mini-itx stuff is too expensive or difficult to fine, then you could use a micro ATX board with a micro ATX case.
Also the SSD, and ram can be swapped out to save money too. The intel i3 is more powerful than the AMD though and will last longer. I would also only buy asrock, asus, MSI, and gigabyte mother boards as well. ECS, foxcon, and biostar are not the most reliable boards. (ECS used to be one of the best for business boards though.)
I found a site for newzealand, but I have no idea if its the best prices... things are very expensive.. It would be cheaper to order things in the states for multiple computers and then buy a plane ticket to come and get them and go back to new zealand.
Here is what I found:

It seems like this company should be doing group shipping for all these items... but I am not going to pretend to know how these prices work in New Zealand.. they are crazy.
A10's are FM2/FM2+ socket.
AM3+ is the FX series of CPUs (FX-6300 etc.).
If the Intel parts are too expensive or hard to find in your country, but the AMD parts are easy to get and less expensive, then by all means go with the A6 and a decent FM2+ motherboard. It'll suit your needs just fine.
if hes not gaming i would just stick 4 gigs of ram and spend more on hd space. but thats just me.
