What are your tips for buying a used GPU. Looking at a 970 EVGA SC edition. I should add it will be my friend who is buying it for me I live 5 hrs away
its best to buy a used GPU from a friend or relative to ensure they haven't used it for bitcoin mining or any other strenuous task which may impact performance. Either that, or get a used card from a well respected company who have conducted the appropriate tests on the card and can ensure that you get the performance you pay for. I can recommend CEX
not worth more than 200$

I've sold quite a few GPU's in the past (Nvidia 900 series), and have also dealt with quite a few bad ones.
Realistically, there isn't really anything you can "look" for when you buy one. You'll have to actually test the card 90% of the time to find out whether it works well or not. I currently have an old AMD 4830 which seems to work fine for about 30min-1hour, but will randomly lock up the system. Depending on the task, it can be quicker or take longer, or it may not happen at all. I've had another card which looked perfectly fine, but would stop my PC from booting.
Anyway, regarding buying used, follow other's advice and buy from a friend/relative. If you don't know the person, ask for a receipt. If they don't have a receipt, but still the original box, SOME manufacturers are fine if you RMA it if you have the box and all of the warranty stickers are still on the GPU. Last I checked, most/all companies offer a 3 year warranty on their GPU's.
Haha what did you sell it for.
It was Ebay.co.uk but would equate to ~$90 which for a card I've owned since new and used continuously was a nice easy sale.
Every single one of my GPUs has been used except for my previous EVGA 980ti, MSI 970, MSI 390x and MSI HD 7770. Out of the 7 used ones that I've bought, only a few survived.
Just don't buy an AMD GPU from the mining period and you're good.
