Hey guys, recently I have been looking into building my first PC that will be used primarily for gaming. As building a gaming computer is pretty expensive I want it to be future proof, for at least 2 years and was wondering if this list I put together would do the job (I already have a keyboard, mouse, and headset). I would like it to play all current and upcoming games at 1080p with ~60fps or higher on high settings. I don't want it to be too much more expensive than it already is but any criticism is helpful whether it involves reducing the price, better quality parts, etc.
Here's the list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8gmmhM
Thank You!
Nothing wrong with this build. I would have a different case preference, maybe another choice of PSU. But that's just nit-picking, and subjective.
You'll max most games with this configuration
If I may, Berserker what would your choice be for the psu and case be, otherwise it's great knowing this build could work. Also, do you think it would last me at least 2 years?
Thanks.
It's a nice build.
It's kind of a personal choice but I would have gone with a cheaper AMD GPU, which would still max out all current games and maybe throw a second one in in crossfire one or two years download the road when you feel you need more horsepower. Then again you can totally do that with Nvidias, they're just more expensive
Yeah decent enough.
If you dont see yourself needing to oc then perhaps this may be worth a look >

It is highly subjective. You might consider a smaller motherboard and chassis. You can get the same gaming performance in a smaller form-factor. It's just food-for-thought. If you're happy with the 200R, there's nothing wrong with it. Consider some Fractal Design alternatives.
Yes, I believe this will last you for two years, comfortably.
Anyway, take a look at some of Deejeta's recommendations. The PSU is something that I would favour. Additionally, if you're going to purchase a 60Hz monitor, it would be in your interest to get an IPS panel; as he stated. They have the best colour reproduction.
Berserker, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8gmmhM would this psu, monitor, and case be better. The psu and case are the same that Deejeta's build had. With the NZXT H230, do you still suggest that I get a smaller motherboard, or will it have no effect? Thanks for the input.
Deejeta, thanks for the suggestion! I took your idea for the case and power supply, and put them into my build, along with a 144hz refresh rate monitor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think an IPS monitor is required as it'll be used mostly for gaming and as such, I will be very close to it. Also I think in the future I will be overclocking so I'll just stick with all the other parts in my build, unless a better suggestion pops up.
Thanks again!
Form factor is like T-shirt sizes. mITX is a small, mATX is medium, and ATX is large. You might prefer a smaller form-factor is all I suggested. Obviously, not all cases are equal, and you will consider materials, airflow, and acoustic performance. The 200R is ATX, and therefore, might be larger than you need. It is, however, entirely your choice, and very subjective. Usually, mATX (medium) is the best of both worlds. It was just food-for-thought. It's not something that you really need to do.
It's a nice build. I'm not knocking it. I think you'll be satisfied with it. As for the panel types; 144Hz is good for fast-paced games, and gives the upper-hand in competitive multiplayer. However, IPS is the best panel-quality, and much more affordable. Again, it is entirely up to you. I use a GTX970 with a 60Hz 1440p. But then, I play much more RTS and things. It is hard to tailor the build to suit everyone's needs. We can only give feedback, ideas; and help you decide. Again, I am not twisting your arm to make different case choices. I do think it is worth investing in a good PSU, as Deejeta has chosen. It's affordable, and gold rated. Always good to ensure that the component that is delivering electricity to your system is of good quality :)
Oh, but one thing I would suggest; if you're only gaming, you really don't need 16GB. 4GB is sufficient, and 8GB is pretty spot on. No game will saturate 8GB, currently.
IMHO you don't need an i7 for 1080p gaming, an i5-4690K will do just fine (especially overclocked). Also, IMHO, Asus motherboards are a bit overpriced. With those considerations in mind, here are my suggested changes to your build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FvJgcf
Also look at the Asrock Fatal1ty series of motherboards, I recently purchased an X99 Fatal1ty motherboard and I am extermely pleased with it.
I hope this helps, and good luck with the build.
get the i7 anyway, once can never have too much cpu
