This isn't the final version of the rig- I plan on adding more 670s until I have a Tri-SLI configuration once I get this rig. It's the initial version, basically.

However, I'm also considering replacing the 670 with a 680 and SLIing those instead- which one should I do?

I would go with the 680 instead, or if you do want to go witht the 670 grab the EVGA FTW edition 670. Also, are you sure you want to go with the older socket, if you are going to be gaming it doesn't make much sence, and even if you won't be gaming or doing a minimal amount of gaming the new ivy bridge is a really good rendering CPU. Either way you can save a lot on your CPU and not have to sacrifice any preformance. The only other thing is, just spend $20 more on a SSD and double the space on it.

Older socket? Dude, it's an LGA2011 Intel X79 board- you know, for i7s.

I'm not making any compromises with the processor.

And sure, I'll double the SSD.
