i have a really nice 1080p mac monitor that was given to me, however i have a gaming PC. how do i use the mac monitor with my pc?!?! will be willing to do mods if needed. thanks!
Could you give some specifics regarding the monitor? Like what ports it has on it or if you can't tell just post the model's store page or something.
the only female ports it has on it are usb 2.0 and there are 3 male ports. 2 usb and 1 that is only for macs. i dont know what it is called
thunderbolt? Displayport? If display port then you can buy something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/1-8m-DisplayPort-Adapter-Unibody-Supports/dp/B003WVC8R2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396834723&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+displayport+hdmi+cable
If thunderbolt you can buy something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004CAJU8W/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=electronics
Does it look something like this?
Otherwise, can you at least take a picture of your monitor's unknown port?
I thought Thunderbolt and the Mini-Displayport connectors are the same thing. They both have the same physical connection, but they could be wired differently.
The Mac-only connector is probably either a mini-DVI, mini-DisplayPort, or Thunderbolt connector if I'm remembering Macs correctly. I don't suppose you'd be able to take a picture of the port and/or the symbol above it?
If it is one of those you can get adapters off Amazon or whatever for reasonably cheap.
Thunderbolt is mini-displayport with PCI-E running alongside
Thunderbolt = (mini)Displayport + PCIe
Thunderbolt is backwards compatible, but if the monitor itself its a Thunderbolt display, then a Mini-display connector won't work.
I think you'll have to ask your friend if it is a normal "Cinema Display" or a newer "Thunderbolt Display", since a picture of either connector would look the same.
