So I have decided to try Linux Mint by having a dual boot setup with Windows 7, however I have read that there can only be three primary partitions on a drive and my drive already has three primary partitions. And I was wondering if I could delete the partition that holds my disk backup if I just made a backup CD, or if there was a way to do it without having to delete any of the partitions that are already there.
You can have four primary partitions. When you boot into your "active" partition it will give you an option of which OS to boot into.
EDIT: If supported by your computer you could use GPT partitioning instead of MBR. GPT theoretically supports unlimited partitions. However, Windows limits that to 128 partitions.
Windows won't count the linux partitions because it can't read them, it only knows FAT and NTFS, it doesn't know any more modern filesystems, so don't worry.
Okay thanks guys does anyone know about the kernel error when trying to boot Mint 15? I have read that there is an issue with the new kernel but didn't see anywhere how to fix the problem.
