Help with display issues

System specs:

Ryzen 5800X
Gigabyte B550 PRO V2
2x32GB DDR4 3600Mhz RAM
XFX Qick RX 6750 XT
2TB PCIe4.0 nvme + 1TB PCIe3.0 nvme + 4TB HDD
EVGA Supernova G2 750W
Dell 25" U2515H
Kubuntu OS

The GPU was a recent addition. Before I had a RX 480 Nitro+ and after the change the problem started. Basically I get the following message in my logs:

4/20/23 11:20 PM kernel amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: [drm] Cannot find any crtc or sizes

Additionally, sometimes (rather randomly) when loading the OS (either from a reboot or cold boot) my monitor will go dark. BIOS displays fine and so does GRUB, so I assume it’s when the driver loads. Sometimes a reboot will “fix” this, other times no matter how many times I reboot I can never get a display (at that point I just turn off the PC and cry in a corner haha). This only happens with DP, AND if my monitor is in DP1.2. Switching it to DP1.1 seems to solve it. Already tried changing cables. Using HDMI does not do this either. The card itself works fine with games and bechmarks.

Which kernel version?

Was using 6.2.12 and recently updated to 6.3 (using Ubuntu’s mainline repo). This also happens on the stock Kubuntu kernel 6.2. This also happened in the older Kinetic Kudu release, and was sort of hopping the update to the Lunar Lobster release would somehow “fix” this as the drivers and the kernel were changed. I honestly have not tried reverting to much older kernels yet.

is the nonfree firmware installed?

Free drivers. Stock drivers that come with Lunar Lobster.
