Hullo, I need some help with my decision of 3 different systems. Here's the thing: I want them mostly for gaming, but I also want it to run SPICE simulations and some mild programming (heck yeah electrical engineering) but also some streaming/video editing. I don't want to go for any Intel option (I really want to see how AMD performs). Yeah, pretty much that, here are the systems:

The first and second are pretty much the same, with the difference of the chipset in each motherboard. I want to know whether the 990FX is worth it or if I should use the 970 (I do plan on overlocking). The last one, don't know, just made it for comparison and for the lolz, although I know APU's can be pretty darn good.
I say go with the second one, but that is because I love how cheap asrock is. Also go with a different cooler. The 212 is better than stock, but it's not that great for overclocking. Maybe 4.2, if you are lucky. Since you are interested in getting a 7870, the A10 5800k is going to be idea for you. If you want to save money, you can grab a 7750? What ever the top dual graphics GPU is recommended for the A10. If you are set on the 7870, for awesome graphics, go with the 6300 and asrock mobo. Good luck, and may the force be with you
I have my 6300 OCed at 4.0ghz with the stock cooler, just artic silver paste. It will allow for about 4.2ish with the 212. Grab a silver arrow or dark knight. Not much more, and you can easily 4.5 with thoses.
If you get a GPU that supports the dual graphics, it allows the APU's GPU to handle some of the minor processes of games. Think like the Virtu MVP tech for intel. The issue is if you get a 7870, it's far to powerful for this to work. It's for the 6670, 6570, and 6450. It allows them to perform on bar with the 6770 and the 6850. Any other GPU is just too powerful or too weak.
APU's will save you some money, but they will not equal the 7870 you are considering. It's for mostly entry/mid level gaming.
Oh, I see. I think I might go for either of the 6300 options, as I stated in the opening post, I want to run some mild-heavy circuit simulations, some programming (mainly C, C++, and JAVA), and very light video rendering. Do you think the A10 is suited for these tasks??
Not really. YOu want as many cores as possible for that. Sure the a10 is slightly more powerful, the more cores are going to help more than the slight power boost.
To answer the question about 970 vs 990FX, the 990 chipsets supports multi-gpus, better/higher overclocking, more vendor features, better audio with some vendors. Just a lot of bells and whistles. For a single GPU config, the 970 should be fine. It will not win any OC comps, but most are quite solid
Double, thanks a lot. I think ive madr my mind the6300 seems like a pretty darn good cpu. BTW can you give me some of the usual frames you get with your 6300 in any games you play and the resolutions you use? Thank you Ehone, i just made the a10 build for a price comparison and to see how the would stack up.
