Help with case selection

Hi everyone, I’m just looking for some advice on a micro ATX cube case. I am looking to upgrade my case first then follow with the mobo, CPU, and ram then a new GPU down the track as I own an RX480 8g.
65w Zen CPU
GTX 1070 or whatever is equivalent when I buy
Both OCed as far as they will go while staying quite
I will eventually be water cooling the CPU and GPU 2x 280/240mm radiators so a case with this in mind would be great.
This machine will be used for as a console replacement in the living room so quite would be good
I was thinking the Thermaltake Core v21

But I am open to suggestion?

Budget? AIO or custom?

Why are not not looking at ITX motherboards? If you are looking to integrate the system into your living room, SFF builds are the most girlfriend/wife friendly.

Air 240 is probably the most versatile case with the most options for expansion, But if you only ever going to have 1 gpu, then honestly iTX is a much better route to go as mATX is shit on AMD side if you plan on OCing. Intel its fine, but I have been waiting forever to get a decent mATX am4 board.

If you cool with not liquid , I really like this for itx

slightly larger version

I really wouldn’t go with a Thermalfake case.

They did a much longer take on that subject back when the whole thing started making headlines, including plenty of examples of the stolen designs.

Honestly its bad for companies good for consumers and there are only so many ways to make a case. I do think its shitty, but cheaper cases is always good for the end user.

I think custom for GPU and AIO CPU

Honestly the air coolers that exist these days are good enough to hit high OC its not really needed. CPU sure if you are limited on space AIO is the best cheaper way to go but it will def not last through system upgrades like Air coolers.

Are you suggesting I don’t go with Thermaltake because they ripped off ideas? Is there any functional reason why I shouldn’t choose them? I don’t care about brand at al,l I just want the best value for money while also being versatile and somewhat quiet.

If mATX is shit how does ITX stack up?

From my experience (cause I am using a Thermaltake Case), I find my case to not be built very well.

Are there any ITX cases that I can do this sort of water cooling in? also the zen ITX boards are limited

Boards are decent that have come out, not amazing, but their are decent options as compared to the mATX options. Basically itx or ATX will always get support where mATX high end is even more niche then itx

The Evolve Shift X supports custom loops while looking good, not sure on thermals, but if I was going for looks in a living room, then that case really hits a nice spot for me. If you ok with just air I really like the Ncase M1 is very nice, but be ware that the height of the gpu can become an issue. (MSI gaming had clearance issues because of power cables.)

There are cases that would accommodate a 120mm radiator You don’t really need it though. I big fan on a good heat sink will cool adequately.

There are definitely thermal issues that arise when shrinking the case. A lot of the time, you can find a way to cool enough for a decent OC. It will take more planning.

I did only intend on going the B350 mobo anyway and in Australia the ITX boards are limited, only about 3 and 50-60% more expensive than the mATX. The Evolve Shift cases look very cool, though I am looking for value for money radiator support.

I’m really only after water because it is more quiet, I want to be able to OC while also having lower fan RPM

Air > Custom > AIO

Honestly air will be plenty quiet, If your not going to crazy OC then Air will be fine and able to be just as quiet if not more since no pump wine. I would go Air 240 if you are ok with the size.

If mATX is the right size for your environment, stick with it. I was just presenting options essentially.

mATX is much easier to plan out.

Liquid cooling is not quieter, inherently. AiOs actually have another component that can generate heat that air coolers do not have: the pump. Noise comes down to moving parts. Control the moving parts; plan them correctly.

Yeah something like

and I can still custom water the GPU
