Help troubleshooting a DOA Minisforum G7 Pt

I just recently purchased a refurbished Minisforum G7 Pt bare-bones computer. The price was decent and I wanted a something in a tiny form factor. Unfortunately, it doesn’t post. I never get any output over HDMI to the screen. I know both the cable and the monitor are good because they were tested with a laptop. The keyboard never seems to activate (no lights of any kind ever turn on). The led panel on the side of the case does turn on and the lights change color. The indicator lights on the front of the system show green and the other purple (red + blue on at the same time, I’m guessing). I am using DDR5 5200MHz RAM and have tried with two sticks installed an only one. When using only one I’ve tried it in both slots. I’ve tried with and without an M.2 installed. I’ve tried to reset the CMOS. I’ve also let it sit for several minutes to see if it was just taking its time. Nothing changes. I’m wondering if you folks here might have some experience troubleshoot Minisforum devices, and if you can point me to other things to try? Thanks!

How long is several minutes? What capacity ram kit are you trying to put in?

Ddr5 is kind of infamous for taking a while to train on first boot. See here:

I’m using a kit of two 16GB DDR5 5200MHZ from ADATA. I left it for around five minutes. The linked article says to wait longer so… I guess I’ll turn it back on and wait more… I’ll let you know how it goes in a bit. Thanks for pointing that out.

Unfortunately, after over a half hour of waiting and a power-cycle for good measure, the condition of the machine is unchanged.

Damn, sorry to hear that. If you dont have any additional sticks to test, I would begin the RMA process if it were me.

As it turns out I didn’t have any “extra” but I did have a kit of DDR5 5600MHz installed in a different machine. I borrow a SODIMM from there and low-and-behold the G7 came to life. So the RMA won’t be for the computer but for the RAM I got for it. I probably should test the RAM more, but sometimes getting something working is enough (without knowing exactly WHY it works).

Thanks for the suggestion to look at the RAM again. Its be a while since I’ve had RAM that just wouldn’t work, but it isn’t an unknown problem (last time it was with a Zotac mini-pc that someone asked me to troubleshoot). I was just guessing that with new RAM vs a refurbished computer that the refurbished product would be the one to cause the problem.
