Hi there!
I had an old PCI sound card which I haven't used in a while. It worked fine before alongside an onboard Realtek HD sound chip. However, since I bought this new Motherboard (M5A97 LE R2.0), it doesn't seem to work.
The card is a cheap one sold by a company known as "Trust", famous for making cheap PC parts. The actual card is manufactured by C-Media, which appears in Device Manager as "C-Media PCI Audio Device".This is the top Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_0111&SUBSYS_011113F6&REV_10
I have installed the correct drivers as suggested by Windows - it does not find drivers on Windows Update, but a "Solution" window opens in Action Center with a link to the official drivers.
Once installed, the device does not function. The device manager status is as follows: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use.
(Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
The "Resouces" tab says the same thing. Upon changing the View in Device Manager to
View > Resources by Type
, I can see that there is not an IRQ conflict.
It uses IRQ 7 ( (PCI) 0x00000007 (07) C-Media PCI Audio Device
) NOTHING else in the list uses anything near 7.
However, under the Input/Output section, I think I see a conflict...
[C000 - C0FF] C-Media PCI Audio Device
[C000 - CFFF] ATI I/O Communications Processor PCI Bus Controller
(those codes were shortened, there are 12 Zeros infront of each code)
Is this "overlap" the reason why the Sound Card does not work? And is there a way I can fix it other than getting a different sound card?
Also, some bonus info:
I tried booting into safe mode and I uninstalled both conflicting devices, then clicked "Scan for Changes" to reinstall them. The next time I booted, the card worked fine, but today it's not working again. Sorry it's a lot of info. Any help is appreciated :)
Also note, like I say, the board is an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0, and the sound card is a C-Media 5.1 Surround card, sold under the brand "Trust".
