My friend recently got a windows 8 laptop and forgot his password.
So my question is, how do I reset it?
he's screwed.... recovery install requires a password. maybe take it to an IT place and see what they can do
ophcrack for vista/7 should work for this since the backend is pretty much the same... haven't tested it myself though
Thanks for the responses, but what the guy didnt tell me until after I posted was that he hadnt even used it for anything.
So i just reinstalled win 8, and set it all up again.
don't worry, in a few months it'll be broken (the passwords are already stored in plain text)
The way I take care of forgotten passwords is load up linux, mount the NTFS partition, rename the sticky key app and make a copy of command prompt with the sticky key file name, boot back into windows hit shift 5 times to get a command prompt and change the password
