Hello,
So I have purchased a new laptop, and it has 2 hard drive bays. In the primary hard drive bay there is my main hard drive that has windows 8 installed on it (it was the cheapest option to get windows 8). I have not put a second hard drive in, and I was wondering if I could take the hard drive off my old laptop and put it in the new one. Keep in mind that on the old hard drive windows 7 home premium is intalled on it, so I don't know if that woud affect anything. The second hard drive is 640 GB and will definately fit into the laptop so size-wise there is no issue.
Thanks
It would fit and it would run. But most likely it won't be able to boot to windows 7. Unless you get lucky, but even then using that crippled install isn't somethin you should do. If you just want to expand storage you're good to go, just wipe out the windows directories and maybe clear the boot tag.
Well i am not worried about windows 7 not running, just that would it confuse the computer that in the secondary hard drive bay there is a hard drive with a different operating system. As long as I am able to use data from the secondary hard drive i will be happy. Oh and also I cannot currently wipe the windows directories or anything as my computer is broken.
put the second HDD in the laptop, make sure the boot order is set so that it boots to the first hard drive, all of your files will be there and be acessable through your windows 8 installation.
You can then format it, save the files, or do whatever you wish.
thanks, that makes it all clear now
