Help picking parts for first custom based around a 4790k and obsidian 450d case

Hey guys. I have gotten into streaming on twitch. Over the last 4 months I have gained a LOT of followers and I would like to improve the quality of my stream. I sold a guitar and now have 700 dollars towards a PC. I have a few more things to sell, but I would like to try and put together the best streaming rig I can for around 800 dollars. The only two requirements I have is that I have a 4790k and an obsidian 450d to put it in. I am willing to take input on everything else. I am going to cannibalize the hdd from my current desktop so I won't need an hdd or OS. Any suggestions I could get would be awesome. Thanks guys!

With the parts that are left in the build, You have somewhat hogtied us. a case very similar to that can be had for less. and that is not a cheap CPU for the $800 range.  I tried for $700 but that would bring your graphics card down to a 250-260. Or it would bring your Mobo down to something else. Ram cannot be had but for a few $ cheaper, but for editing and streaming, you really want 1866 and above. I would have rather have gone with a 550-600 watt PSU to make sure everything was well within limits, as it is, they are, but I have no Idea what you want to plug into it.   This was the best I could do with your specs. I think a lot of us would feel you are better off with an FX-8350 and better video card.  but it is up to you. The 4790K is a great chip.

Thanks. I like the looks of that. I do have a paintball gun and a camcorder that was 400 dollars when I got it so I should be able to get a few hundred dollars more to put towards the build, but I've been trying to keep it under 1000 to keep my wife happy. The cheaper it is the more likely I will get the the all clear from the wife to go ahead and buy the parts. What I currently have plugged in to my pc is an audio interface for my mic and any audio (speakers and headphones are swapped from the same 1/4 inch jack), webcam. 24 inc led monitor via hdmi, and a tv via vga cable to dvi adapter, razer black widdow keyboard and my corsair m65 is plugged into the computer via the keyboard....other than that I occasionally have a printer plugged in.

Under $1000 build

That FX8350 is a solid processor, but you'll probably be better off getting an i5 4690k. You can find them pretty regularly for about 200 bucks, so it's not much more expensive than the AMD. The Z97 mobos are a little bit pricier, but they're also much more recent than the AM3+. You'll get things like m.2 and PCIe gen 3 support, plus support for Broadwell chips when they come out. The thing is, if you go with something like a Z97-A with an i5, it's going to slot nicely in between the 8350 and the i7, but you'll have plenty of room to upgrade down the road if you need to. Mr. ProSonic is right, though, that case is way more than you need to spend. Buy something in the 50-70 dollar range and put the rest into an SSD for your boot drive.

By the way, pulling a hard drive out of an old computer and putting into a new one without formatting it first isn't really going to work. I don't know if that's actually what you were talking about, or if you meant you were going to wipe it and reload the OS, but the drivers and what not from the old drive won't match the new computer, so you'll end up having to basically reinstall all of that anyway. I would set up your OS on an SSD and use the HDD for a larger storage drive. A 120GB SSD is relatively cheap.

I didn't even think about the drivers...now I feel silly cause thats so obvious. Thanks yrnst. You and ProSonic have both given me a lot to think about. I was thinking about the i7 because I felt that it would be significantly better for the video encoding. Would the i5 be close enough in performance to justify spending less on that? I know I could always upgrade later as far as that goes. Thanks again guys.

also consider xeon e3 1231 v3

I was actually going to ask about the Xeon. It would be better than the 4690k if I'm not mistaken, simply for the multi threading. At least for streaming anyways. I have found a few similar cases to the 450d that are a lot cheaper. The nzxt source 210 is really nice for 40 bucks. I also talked it over with the wife and with new eggs financing options I should be able to spend 1300-1400.

The xeon will indeed be more powerful for stuff like streaming and video rendering.  However, it's not overclockable via the multiplier.
