I was wondering if anyone has a solution to connect a group of people to one place where they can share ideas contact each other and share projects. Preferably free and browser or mobile app based. Thanks for any help!
If you need a share space for co-lab work, Teambox is a pretty good and free service. Used it for sometime when the bashcraft servers were still running.
Have a look if it suits your needs. Yes it is browser based and does have a chrome app. Does have apps for both iOS and android. although I do not know how well they work as no one in the project used them
Apparently it is now called Redbooth....?
It looks good. Unfortunately its only free for up to 5 users. Theres 28 of us that need to be able to network. Otherwise we would just go through emails. One idea was to use facebook, but that's just to invasive on personal lives.
You can set up an sftp server for all of your file transfers and do your text/audio/video communication with an XMPP server.
Personally, I use the Canonical-recommended sftp server and Prosody for XMPP serving and connect to them with Thunar (GNU/Linux file manager) and Jitsi (multi-protocol chat client).
Acquiring sftp and XMPP clients for any OS (mobile or otherwise) is a trivial matter.
Google Docs?
Now called "Google Drive"
I've used this for collab in many settings. It does a great job for the price!
I second Google Drive.
Also, Google Docs and Google drive are separate things. Google Docs is the document application that sames documents to Google drive.
But definitely google drive. There are even options for sharing files for collaboration. Use Hangouts to converse with eachother while everyone edits the same document at the same time.
