Help needed for a balanced video editing system

Hello,

My son starts as a parttime professional HD video editor, ask me to build a trustable PC because his pc now (E6600, PNY nvidia quadro 4000,) stucks the video while editing and is slow in loading heavy files.

He uses Adobe CS (more specific premiere, aftereffects, photoshop) avid Media composer, ama to name the most important ones. Most of his work is editing fullHD video and transcoding, not that much rendering.

The pc will be used only for this purpose. His budget for the hardware is 1000-1200 euro's. He can recup the quadro 4000, Harddisks and dvd. "Azerty.be en alternate.be are 2 big shops the first one is cheapest, but 150km driving, the next is 20km driving." A list will be easier to overview:

-silent system

-No WiFi or bluetooth needed.

-firewire and usb3

-fast loading heavy files from prof camcorders

-balanced hardware (round the quadro), no harddisks, dvd, videocard orperiferals

-1000-1200 euro price without software

-upgrading later would be considered as a + point

-eventually 4k video editing would be a dream, not a must.

So I look around and found 2 possibilities:

A Socket 1150

Motherboard: Z87 expert_______________________ 185 euro

Processor (haswell) i7 4770K____________________285 euro

Processorcooler Noctua NH 14____________________72 euro

Crucial M500 120Gb 2stuks (progs+cache)_________130 euro

Corsair VengeancePro cmy16gx3m2a1600C9R _____155 euro

Corsair AX760_________________________________139 euro

Fractal design define4R__________________________85 eur

Total +/-_____________________________________1051 eur

1. is this well balanced wuth the quadro 4000?

2  will there be cooling enough for overclocking, but not extreme?

3 as far as i know the cpu is the heaviest, so upgrading only possible via RAM.

B Socket 2011

Motherboard: Asus P9X79de luxe________________ 310 euro

Processor i7 3930k____________________________490 euro i7 4820k_______________280 euro

Processorcooler Noctua NH 14____________________72 euro

Crucial M500 120Gb 2stuks (progs+cache)_________130 euro

Corsair VengeancePro cmy16gx3m2a1600C9R _____155 euro

Corsair AX760_________________________________139 euro

Fractal design define4R__________________________85 eur

Total +/-_____________________________________1381 eur                                    1171euro

1. the first 6core processor makes the cost too high so i take the i7 4820K,

or which things will I replace to save money while the pc will be optimum balanceb?

2. with this socket i can upgrade

In order of workpower and future upgrade would workstation motherboards be an option (xeon processors).

Is it possible with workstation socket 1150 en xeonprocessors to make that system upgradeable, and what with the socket 2011 workstations is that a better solution in the long run? Or other sockets?

And what about 4k ultraHD, or is that price too high for me?

I would appreciate highly your advices

Best regards

Asrock Fatal1ty Pro with an i7 3820 3x  WD Black HDD and 1x samsung 840 evo is what I use for editing.

asrock mobo $219-$275

i7 3820 $219- $299 save your money for ram 4x4gb16 or 4x8 32 gb 1600

16 gb 4 ch ram $150 each

evo 840 120 gb $90 250 gb $155

I would also go cooler master 212 and upgrade later to water all in one

if he is not overclocking the cpu wont get that hot when rendering

$1050 usd

the fatal1ty may be hard to find the equivalent would be extreme6 I checked prices in euro they were same or less so i think you will be able to build a real nice 3820 system. I sacrificed ultimate performance for ultimate data redundancy. If your project is lost your 6 cores wont make up for it go with a cloud backup as well. Let us know if you need more help. :)

700-800 watts should be ok get the 3820 and upgrade to haswell-e in a couple years

mindfactory.de is great for european purchases they have some of these products on sale

Thank you KevinHeinrich,

I' m surprised by the speed your answer, You offer me a solution for the planned price, You are right about the importance of redundancy, i have diskdrives recovered from my old system. Also the ssd, i planned to buy two 120Gb Crucial's 130 euro for both: one for the progs and one for the cache,And 16Gb RAM is the needed minimum. But about upgrade later: I readed an article about Intel(s the haswell -E it would have six cores but also another socket (more pins) and chipset and with the new DDR4. So upgrading stays the problem.

Another possibility is upgrade his pc: motherboard LGA775, E6600, Nvidia quadro 4000.

If i can find a Q9775 that would be the max, and buy ssd's and RAM up to 16Gb I think the difference in prestation wouldn(t be that great and save the money for a later upgrade for something that works with 4k Ultra HD.

That would cost 68 euro for SSD's, 100 euro's for Q9550 and add 8Gb RAM and overclock slightly  the processor and the RAM,I think that would give a big change.

SSD's one for the progs and one for the cache,The setup i still have to find out, I have read about SRT but don't know if it works with raid?

Thank you for your help

Always happy to help. From what I have read so far it seems that ddr4 would require a board swap since it may be release as 288/256SO pin configs. The nvidia quadro 4000 is going to be fine imo its the dominant card from what I hear and  its still for sale Just speculation but I think 4k editing probably won't be in demand till he has the money to get a new card most professional environments are sluggish to upgrading and where I live in the states they dont even have 1080p cable service yet. I am pretty sure hes going to be able to do 4k with the 4000 its just going to render slower although I have zero experience with it.Hope he loves the surprise :)
