Help needed - Asrock ROMED8 - 2T/BCM - SATA issue

Hi folks,

I have been beating my head on this issue for a few days and worst of all, my wife can’t watch shows on Plex, so urgent help is needed

TLDR: I updated BIOS (from3.50 to 3.80) for ROMED8 - 2T/BCM with AMD EPYC 7302P, after which Mini-SAS HD Connector (SATA_0_3) and M.2 Socket (M2_1) BIOS stopped seeing drives that are plugged into these ports.

I tried:

  • upgrading BMC Firmware to the latest (2.02.00)
  • changing miniSAS to Sata cable

I would appreciate any help with the next steps that I can take to troubleshoot this. I reached out to Asrock’s support but have not heard back yet.

Why did you update the BIOS if it worked before? Try rolling back the BIOS update (just install the known working BIOS again) to get stuff working again, then unless there’s a serious reason to update the BIOS, consider keeping it on 3.50

Dude, I am not sure why I didn’t think of that. Sometimes, you are deep enough into the issue that you forget to think of the basics

I rolled back the BIOS, and everything is back to normal!

This post will serve as a warning to others - DON’T upgrade ROMED8 - 2T/BCM BIOS to 3.80 unless you need SATA_0_3 ports.

I am also going to try to submit this bug to Asrock.

Thank you, Dutch_Master
