Help me spec out a new machine

Looking for some guidance on building a PC. I know some of you guys live for this stuff. I have been out of the hardware scene far too long so hoping for some help to save me time and frustration.

Here’s what I need:

Budget: ~$600 USD a bit flexible on this.

Peripherals: not needed I’ll reuse what I have currently for KB, mouse, monitor

Use: Photoshop, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Lightroom, some gaming (have not played a game on my PC for years. Enjoy playing CoD on console but would play on PC with a better machine than what I currently am using)

Overclocking: Nah… I don’t see a need for what I am doing.

OS: Windows 7 or Windows 8 (I believe 8 is a bit faster?)

I do know I want to do SSD for boot and then large storage drive for secondary. Would be nice to be able to play most games but don’t want to break the bank.

Thanks in advance!

Check out the build on my profile, it still might be within the $600 range, but if not, you can always use an AMD processor instead. Without Windows of course, that's another 100+ dollars (I.d check ebay auctions).

Guide:

For your goals you need fas. CPU and a lots of ram. Not sure 8gig is gonna cut it. Also faster ram is better for productivity. The price difference between 1600 and 2133 is negligible...

You also  need large SSD. And fast... A-Data is nice and not very expensive option, Samsung 840 Evo is nice, just make sure it's over 500 read and write speed.

For GPU it depends if you will use OpenCL or CUDA more. AMD kills it with OpenCL, but Nvidia destroy in CUDAapplications.i

AMD 6300, R9 270x, 16 gb ram, 128 or 256gb SSD, 1TB HDD, m5a99fx r 2.0

Ok... I started a build on PCPartPicker..... I need to trim the cost a bit.... any ideas so I can maintain a decent level of performance?

I put 8gb RAM for now and can upgrade later since MB has 4 slots.

More like $700. If you need it cheaper, downgrade the GPU to a 750ti or R7 260x.
