I am planning to build pc from scratch
1st time builder , long time enthusiast
Budget - 2lakh inr
Use - 1) light gamming like age of empires 4 2) light editing 2 to 3 videos a month on premiere pro , making designs on 5d planner etc 3 ) over all fast snappy pc bith fast boot time and 1 click and 1 sec app loading and multitasking minor apps like browsers , calculators , callender , office ms etc
4) future proof
Plan : core ultra 7 285k cpu
Fast read speed ssd gen 4 like samsung evo pro 990 1 tb for apps and window for snappy performance
4k 32 inch wide ips monitor for multi tasking and cristal clear image
Please me decide: appropriate gpu for this purpose( is rtx 3060 enough or i need rtx 4070 super ?
Can i go for amd gpu ? Will it make difference for me
And appropriate z890 motherboard ( with thunderbolt 4 and good pci lane utilization i do t want to bottle neck specially ssd due less pcie lanes )
That is quite the powerhouse for what you want to do. Honestly, I would say even something like a $600 Minisforum PC would get you close to what you want.
Radeon would be really wonderful editing and productivity cards if only the content apps would support them more, sadly since Nvidia has like 90% of the discrete GPU market Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve etc focus on providing Nvidia support and AMD get whatever support is left over, leaving a janky experience to say the least. Still, when Nvidias cheapest 16GB model cost more than twice a 7800XT, a card that can beat a 4080 on a good day… Nvidia is just too little VRAM for the price at the moment.
The 285 is a decently performant chip but very power hungry. If you want to step down to a 9900X you would have a much more power efficient system. No idea what electricity cost for you though. We are talking savings of maybe 1 kWh per watt per year, so yearly about 100-200 kWh savings. It is much more important in server hardware. Still, a 9900X gets a lot less hot, which is a positive in my book.
A 1TB SSD is way to small for what you want to do. Go with a 4TB drive instead.
So, with your use case in mind, something like this hits the spot, but you need to adjust for your market. If you can get a 9900X build and a 4070 card then that is preferable, but the market is just insane at the moment for Nvidia.
nVIDIA has the bigg old bias/hype, with most media programs [ex. Adobe Premiere]
Pricing is VERY stupid, for bulk of newer graphic processors
The 3060 wouldn’t be too far behind, codec performance wise, to 4070 and still have 12GB VRAM
3060 would be a bit more power friendly [1x 8pin] and can be found in tidier formfactors
With that said, an alternate GPU option, would be Intels B580 [availability pending]
Nice job, any idea how the market is for Nvidia GPUs? I do not have much experience with the Indian market and would be good to get a tracker on 3060, 4070 (Super), 5070 and 5070 Ti. Oh, and 9070 XT.
My hunch is same bs as rest of world but would be nice to get it confirmed. Either way VRAM is getting more and more important so I would not pay more for a 5070 over a 7800 XT given the 4 GB less VRAM.
this page help youself , just input the desired GPU name in the search box and it will show the cheapest prices for that model.
if you click on the model name, it will direct you to the historical pricing of that model from various retailers at the end of the page.
TIL:
For a long time I was mislead to believe there were heavy tariffs levied on importing GPUs because they are luxury goods. its what most of the retailers and dealers used to justify their absurd pricing.
for as long as I can remember. our retailers just set the Maximum retail prices by multiplying US pricing by 100. we assumed (18% GST) + customs, bribes and freight.
As an individual importing goods from abroad. customs levied on any purchases is a luck of the draw with a range of 44-77%. i recently came to know based on the HSI codes used to calculate import duties there are no taxes levied for companies when importing GPUs. ( so our wholesalers and distributors didn’t have to pay customs at all)
Pre chinese import ban from India. A select few enjoyed ordering parts from AliExpress and other freight forwarding companies like mx2games. you had to pay upfront and wait for months for the product to arrive.
if you were lucky, the seller used to undervalue the invoice pricing and you would spin the wheel hoping customs would ignore your package.
if the product got picked up by customs and the charges were heavy. the sellers were used to just refunding the amount minus shipping.
now we are just at the mercy of our local retailers/ scalpers.
The 9070xt ,9070 launch prices were $1126 and $850 respectively. only two cards were sold at MSRP when some head of colorful (AIB partner ) visited the offline retailers for some PR.
all gpu prices are based on Pcpricetracker pricing as on march 14th 12pm IST.
Cost Per Frame data is based on HUB 9070 review 18 game average @4k. (average FPS/cost in INR)
Cost Per Frame RT data is based on HUB 9070 review 6 game average @1440p. (average FPS/cost in INR)
Thanks, that helps - though something seems broken with your table. Here is a more nicely formatted data sorted by raw price
Given this data, my recommendation is to either reach for a 4070 Super or a 7900 XT, if you cannot afford either the 7800 XT is the better option by far - the 4060 just has too little VRAM and the 3060 is ancient at this point. The 5070 and 9070 are just not cost efficient enough. Even the 4070 Super only comes with 12 GB VRAM, which will be problematic over time, but it is the cheapest “good” Nvidia option right now.
