I'm trying to decide what phone to get. I really like what I see for the Oneplus 3, in terms of specs, and especially camera performance (looking at comparison images... that camera looks to be pretty darn solid). But I am hesitant because I have had a Note 3 for years, which I despise, and one thing I really don't like is how big it is. I was hoping to pick something around 5.2" or smaller screen size, but it seems like none of the phones around that size have a good camera (save for perhaps the iPhone 6s, but I'd really rather not get an iPhone). I refuse to buy any phone from a carrier, and I prefer to get Android updates fairly quickly from release.
My budget can be flexible, but I would REALLY like to spend no more than a few hundred, and I'm perfectly willing, actually prefer to buy something used.
My carrier will be T-Mobile most likely, though I may consider some other options if anyone has a suggestion.
Have you looked at the LG G5? I have the previous one and couldn't praise the fact that is has expandable storage enough. The camera is 16MP and it has a 5.3" screen. However take my recommendation with a grain of salt as like I said I only have experience with the previous model (G4).
I am definitely considering the LG G5, it seems like a very good choice, my only reluctance is the price tag at the moment.
That Meizu phone seems a little sketchy to me, also it has a 5.5" screen just like the Oneplus 3, I think I would opt for the OP3 over than Meizu despite the price difference.
The G5 also is praiseworthy for being a step towards modularized phones. Boasts not just of expandable memory, but some camera lense mods and audio mods as well (and the way you switch out batteries is I guess nice, I don't think that's as big of a deal right now though).
No specific suggestion. I just wanted to say, be sure it has expandable storage via micro sd. I hate the trend that happened with phones getting rid of that feature. Spending an extra $100 on a few more GB has always seemed ridiculous to me when I get 60gb micro sd card for $20-30. I am glad that some companies are going back to it... cough.. samsung.
From what I understand, the Meizu phones are pretty legit. Seems they cut their margins a little shorter as they aren't as well known of a brand maybe, and as I recall from other spec sheets, they tend to come out with their tech a bit later (so same parts are cheaper, etc) and cut some corners in areas which won't effect MOST people (cut out some frequency support maybe, so you might have problems using the phone you bought for the U.S. in Brazil or something, but you can find that info up front), or maybe smaller resolution screen (still good from the latest ones, but I doubt you'll see a 4K screen) etc.
I was seriously considering them a few months ago for their Pro 5 Ubuntu Phone (the best of the Ubuntu phones thus far), but they're hard to get right now and I went even cheaper (bought a used LG Flex 2, because it was super cheap and I just needed a quick replacement).
So... I'd through the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition into the ring too if you are willing to be a bit adventerous with a new phone OS, there's also an Ubuntu version of the MX4 it looks like too: http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/devices
But... as I said they're not easy to get right now. That site says all sold out, but I'm thinking there are places to get them elsewhere.
The Meizu MX4 does look like a pretty good option, and some of their other phones seem decent as well. I am a little hesitant about the camera quality though. I am hoping to find something that has a really solid camera, that and a decent UI without too big of a screen are my only strong preferences.
Does anyone have experience with the Huawei Honor 8? It looks like a really decent phone, with pretty solid specs all around, and fits my sizing preference.
Whats your timeline? It might be worth waiting to see what the new Nexus phones have to offer. There should be a smaller and larger version, and they are usually reasonably priced.
They are open (as open as arm chips can be), unlocked, stock android, frequent security updates. Camera quality has been very good as well.
Why the haterino on Note 3? Try switching ROM's ,you will be surprised what that phone can do. Meizu and Xiaomi are both good companies,Axon 7 is the phone to buy together with OP3,depends on which one you like more.
I'm planning on getting an OP3, as I can't justify spending $600-$850 for a phone. It sounds strange, given the fact that I spent a butt-ton for my PC, but nearly a thousand dollars for a phone makes me cringe. :-P
I do like the Nexus phones, I am definitely considering those as options, just wasn't super impressed by the camera on the Nexus 5X at the moment. Do you have any idea what the timeline is for the new Nexus phones to be released? I have been delaying repeatedly at getting a new phone because I want to wait for the right option.
The ZTE Axon 7 looks pretty intriguing, but again, it is 5.5", and at that size I think I would just get a OP3.
My haterino on the Note 3 is mostly due to having all the Verizon bloatware on it (no I haven't unlocked it yet to load a new ROM, probably should). Also that it gets really hot during use (and starts to down-clock which causes performance loss), doesn't have very good battery life, the camera is really mediocre, and is just too big. Otherwise it is a very decent piece of hardware.
