I'm placing in the GPU section because it's video related but I don't actually know what's wrong. I do have my video card overclocked and I haven't ran extensive stress tests but I've played quite a few games on this PC and the crashes seem inconsistent. I do have directx crashes sometimes; I'm not running beta drivers.
Was playing Starcraft and watching a Twitch stream.
Windows crashed like 10 seconds after I filmed that. That is maybe the 3rd or so time that it has done that. The other times it just went gray and distorted. It came back one time and didn't crash. It is always the left monitor that screws up. I'm sure this could be any number of things but I would like to figure this out just in case I need to return a defective part. I'm not sure what information you would need so just ask :D.
My bet is that the overclocking is the issue here. Do these issues appear when running on stock speeds ? You must do a stability test after each overclock, just a side note.
I have ran stability tests just not for extended lengths of time. I just ran Furmark for about an hour with no crashes of any kind. I also ran youtube and streams on the second monitor. The crashes are very inconsistent It has had a crash like that when I'm not even in a game stressing the GPU.
I would return the card to stock clock speeds, then run either the stress test from the Afterburner MSI overclocking utility, or download and run a stress test from MSI's Kombustor. If you have crashes still, only on that monitor, then it is probably that you've got a damaged video card, either the connector is damaged, or you have a short or something. It would be especially difficult to actually figure out what the real issue is if that doesn't remedy it.
I bought all the components are 6/13/13. There is no snow or lines. The card is a sapphire vapor-x 7950. The rest of my PC is listed in the pcpartpicker. I restored the card to stock settings; I'll run it that way for awhile and see if it does anything; If I recall it has acted funny even at stock settings but I can't remember exactly; pretty bad I know.
Just ran furmark for about 30 min with stock settings. No crashes but I did notice in afterburner that periodically my GPU load would spike down to 64% then back up to 99-100%. Temps are good though. I loaded up a youtube video on the other monitor and the spiking became consistent. Would spike down to 64ish% then back up to 99-100% in a consistent squiggly line. I don't know if these means anything it just seems strange.
I loaded up my overclock that I had listed above and did the same thing. It would drop down to 64% when the video first started up then spiked up to 99% and remained there for over 30 minutes. It does drop down each time I load up a video but go right back up to 99% and stays there. Again I don't know if these means anything I'm quite the noob when It comes to overclocking and computers. This is my first build.
