so in the past ive had some expensive yet classy choices in my audio and often enjoyed them but i tend to sell stuff i dont use or i “upgrade” and then sell that when i get bored of it. which is stupid as im a student living on ramen [ not really true[ not ramen at least ] ]
so my past high end audio headphones and in ear headphones are as follows.[ hyperlinked ]
Is my choice in audio bad ?? i honestly loved each earphone but found the dt770 the best for picking up inperfections but the audiotechnica range never gave me issues…
with those above what are similar or better headphones you guys can suggest that i can buy as my IEM will get super uncomfortable in summer as i have the isolation comply large tips attached to them.
First, I don't think your choices here are bad at all. Those are a lot of popular models.
I'm also a bit unsure when you say the DT770 picked up imperfections - is that a good thing (are you trying to find them) or do you mean they are inaccurately reproducing sound? I've not heard many complaints about the DT770s, so that kind of came as a shock as it is top of my list for the 150 dollar range for closed back.
Anyway, as far as comfort in summer goes, its hard to go wrong with Sennheiser's HD line with those velour earpads and open back design. The HD598 (~$150) and the HD 558s (~$100) are both popular choices with solid quality.
If you wanted to go back to closed back, I don't have any good suggestions since my normal rec would be the DT770 again :D If you wanted to go cheaper (since you're on a Ramen budget) you could try the Superlux 668, which is a semi-open design. Not sure it would be "cool in the summer" though.
oh no when i was at uni i used them for monitoring on behinger desks haha it picked up all the faults and it was recommended to me by the top experienced lecturer. i do not mind going back to beyerdynamics at all great cans tbh. do you know if the hd598 and 558 need large adapters? ugh the qauter inches
well alot of my music is either dubstep, electronic, chillmix and some j or k pop. all though i do have alot of punk rock i sometimes listen to. i also like vocaloids. so i often go for headphones that sit in that range.
they sound good through mine, a good EQ could increase the bass. However, My all time favs are the AKG K240 semi opens they have a nice accentuated bass. But they are more for recording/DJ use. In the price range you seem to be running in, you also cant really go wrong with Sennheiser.
Same as Prosonic, I have no experience with any Brainwaves products. Not sure why you'd want to risk it, other than enjoying the exploration of new possible sounds :)
I can recommend a lot. The B&o h6 are amazing and I wouldn't give those away. Ever. Same goes for my Sennheiser HD650s and Fostex T50rp mkIII. But for different reasons.
No issues with my Bose Soundsport IEMs when it comes to comfort. They don't have much noise isolation though, so the Soundtrue may be a better option for you. Their price is okay too, I'd consider them good value for money.
Going up a step : their QC20 has excellent active noise cancelling, but I find that the noise cancelling does have some effect on the audio itself. It just sounds a little ... ermm ... "artificial", so I don't use it that much anymore. Good for listening to MP3s on the plane or when listening to podcasts on the way to work, but not for hi-res music.
My preferred IEMs however are the 64audio U3. Don't know if your budget would stretch that far though. I consider mine an investment. Better to buy one really good headset than 7 mediocre ones.
yea my cat knocked a cologne bottle off a shelf and it smashed all over my h6 haha smelt dank asf. but it caused the inner wires to rot. and due to the damage they wouldnt fix it haha fml.
i could honestly just go back to apple and buy a new pair now since others think the BnO are good :) thought i was just a sucker for fancy names and looks. --
what i really want is a comfortable pair of cans that are not too tight so my glasses don't dig into my skull and dont sound like shit as i am sensitive to shitty sound pressure from crap drivers [ beats and bose, both set off my vertigo idk how ]
realistically i can spend up to 700$ AUS ive done it before i just gotta save for 2 weeks, im not on a super poor budget but i have enough to spend on upgrading my pc each week so i can put towards some good cans. ive noticed the IEM i have are not conforming to my ear shape now idk if its cause i moved to large comply tips and not the medium that came with my im70?
to be honest, the point of diminishing returns happens long before the $500 range ($700 AUS) However, some nice mentions are AKG K267 TIESTO they are GREAT headphones that are my most expensive set. They are my swiss army knife of headphones, however, due to their price, they do not do much DJ work.
Audio-Technica ATH-M70x not my cup of tea, but well liked among a lot of other people.
Sennheiser HD 650 a great pair of cans and currently come in a bundle on amazon.
Ok, I am guessing you want to be able to use your headphones on the go, right? If so you are looking at closed cans that can be powered without an additional amp? For that I still have the h6.
i own a fiio e10k that i have mounted on my desk with hot glue. so outside of use at my desk i guess id have to go withg on the go cans.
but when i come home i still want to be able to plug them into the fiio to amp up the sound as my on board is garbage volume, and play games, edit video, watch youtube, anime etc.
The h6 are very clean sounding and reveal pretty much everything without being piercingly treble heavy or anything. They don't have lots of bass but otherwise they are outstandingly good.
At home I use the HD650s for relaxed music listening over long time, the Fostex T50rp mkIII for critical listening and games, and the Beyer Dynamic DT990 Pro limited 250 ohm for spectacle in games and movies (although I might switch those for Philips Fidelio X1/2). So basically I have four different use cases and therefore I have a few different cans on hand.
So my advice would be: Define what you are doing with your headphones and think about what you want them to sound in those specific roles.
Yes the 598 and 558 use the quarter inch jack but but if you don't have a DAC or sound-card that supports that size jack already then there is no reason to get headphones of this type. but i would definitely recommend the the 598's i love mine to death just keep in mind that they are open backed.
hd598 sound accuracy 10/10 over all sound (high-mid-lows) 9/10 bass 8/10 comfort 11/10
