Help me build a 1000$AUD gaming PC! (Noob alert)

Hi guys- I'm new to the forums. I'm asking around for a PC build under 1000$AUD(50 give or take)! I've been told you guys are good, so help me out please.

  • Budget. How much are you willing to spend? I'm willing to spend 1000$, 50$ give or take.
  • Where do you live (what country),  and what currency do you use? I use AUD, and I live in Western Australia.
  •   -Is there a retailer you prefer? Anything that's cheap.
  • Do you need or already have peripherals? (this can add to costs) I just need a mouse.
  • What will you be using your future computer for? Gaming? Rendering? Mix of both? Or is this a home media PC? I'm gaming, and recording. Video editing, but that's about it.
  • Do you overclock or want to get into overclocking? Later down the road, so I'll use the stock cooler for now.
  • Do you plan on going for custom watercooling now, or in the future? Nope.
  • OS. Do you need a new one? Nope.

If you Game-

  • What kind of settings do you like or what FPS do you want to play at? 60+ High/Max would be nice:D
  • What resolution will you be playing at? //or would like to play at. I have a 1080p monitor.
  • What kind of games do you like to play? Anything. Anything at all, any AAA title.
  • What specific game will you be playing (if you only really play one) I also play a bit of Minecraft to kill time.

If you don't have peripherals -

  • What type of mouse-grip do you have? Palm, claw, combination? Claw.
  • What kind of games do you play? (mmo vs fps, for button management) I don't play a certain type of game, an all rounder would be nice!

Other Notes:

  • What is your general experience in building computers? Is this your first build or are you seasoned and just looking for advice? I have never ever built a PC. I'm looking for a build, and I have basic knowledge on PC's.

Thanks for your time:DD

Overclockable if you add a third party cooler in the future.  I didn't pick a mouse since I'm not a claw-grip type of user.

that's a good build but I think that for a 1000 dollars he needs an ssd more that overclockability

I would go with this

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/xsvXJx

It is 90 dollar over you budget but it will be much more snapy with an ssd

I'm sorry but I'd much rather have the option to overclock than a ssd.

Thanks. I'll take this into consideration:D

Really depends how mutch you want to spend on the mouse , I have a claw grip , I spent 50€ on a wireless KB + mouse and it works great.

This is my generic 'budget' gamer 'loadout' with a couple of changes.

The fx-6300 is a great little processor that I had for months before upgrading. It overclocks nicely (especially with the nh-u12s) and didn't bottleneck my system noticeably.

The Noctua NH-U12S is a fantastic cooler that easily handles an overclock. I have a friend who lives in Perth, uses the fx 6300 and the NH-U12S and idles at 4 degrees and plays games at around 20 degrees.

The ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 is a basic motherboard which my friend also uses (the one idling at 4 degrees). It is a pretty good board for the money (which is cheap because in budget builds, I always cheap out on the mobo). Im not sure about overclockabillity but it should have basic functions.

I chose 8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport XT because it is a good set of RAM and is good for gaming. If you are going to edit videos a lot, I recommend spending a little bit more money to buy 16 GB worth.

The Western Digital Re 1TB is a reliable, fast and spacey hard drive with a nice amount of cache for speedy rendering. But if you have some spare cash and want to edit videos, I suggest buying a ssd to slash those rendering times.

The XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition is a good graphics card with a good cooler. It will happily play battlefield 4 on ultra with its 3gb of RAM and 1000 MHz clock speed.

I chose the Cooler Master K280 ATX Mid Tower Case because of cooler masters good build quality and size, offering all the expansion space you need.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 650W. It's 80 watts platinum at 650W. Its not got too much room for expansion and isn't modular, but its good for a first build.

Anything for the build? :))

Also, chuck me a link for the combo?

Damn! It's so pricey! 100+ for a HDD? 100+ for a air cooler?! I can get cheaper ram for about 20$ cheaper, I don't need such a big PSU. I don't mind a 280. I don't really like the CPU+MOBO.  Can you please modify it? Thanks:D

The fx-6300 is a great little processor that I had for months before upgrading. It overclocks nicely (especially with the nh-u12s) and didn't bottleneck my system noticeably.

I would say at his budget, getting an 8350 or 4690k would be better. fx 6300 is a great CPU but its not the best in terms of price to performance and fits more of a low end build than mid range.

You cant have a system idle at 4 degrees unless your running something better than air or water. so dice or liquid nitrogen. Check your facts.

Again, temps depend on room temperature and scale up with room temp. if its a 30 degree day, the cpu wont idle under 32 degrees. you would be lucky to see it idling at 40 degrees. Gaming at 60 is reasonable. 20 is questionable.

RE drives are designed for servers and other high bandwidth tasks and have a very premium price with their stability. I would switch it for a wd black. cheaper, 5 year warrenty and very fast for a HDD. Very low failure rate as well.

Antec EarthWatts Platinum 650W. It's 80 watts platinum at 650W. Its not got too much room for expansion and isn't modular, but its good for a first build.

Why Platinum 650 watt when recomending a 280x? A 280x draws a lot of power and he would be much better off with an 850 gold from coolermaster or seasonic or even a 850 strider gold. Platinum is only useful for those willing to spend the extra to save a bit of money when the power bill comes. Usually never outwaying the price of the PSU in the first place.

Thanks- would you have any suggestions?

Money from that pricy psu and RAM could be used towards a better motherboard.  Weak power delivery on that motherboard.  This is not optimal for overclocking.

Cheers. Is 600W enough? I'm looking at a ThermalTake 600W PSU. And I can get cheaper RAM too.

600w is fine for most single-gpu configurations.  However, Thermaltake PSUs are hit-and-miss.  Give us the model and we can see if it's cheaply made or not.

Put together an AMD build.  Has a weaker CPU(in general) compared to the i5-4690k, but is cheaper and has a stronger cpu.

ThermalTake LitePower 600W PSU.

Super inefficient power supply and has low quality components.  Try to look for 80+ Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc certified power supplies.  Then, look for reviews online that open up the power supply to see where the components come from, and how voltage sagging and ripple characteristics are.

Are Silverstone PSU's decent? The Strider series?
