I've always wanted to get an old X-men arcade game with the four individual booths and connect MAME to it. Now I suppose I would put a Retro pi in there and have all the appropriate controllers for each system along with the original arcade setup.

I was looking for an image of the machine I was talking about but now I think it was a custom job. Imagine something like this but there are four of them arranged in a semi-circle.

That's a pretty nice arcade, I'm looking for old arcades to modify and make new. Like put a pc with emulators in it and an x arcade stick. Cheapest way to make arcade is to get a raspberry pi and put emulators but it's to low end graphics for what I want.

I know there is an emulator plugin for xbmc if that helps.

Looks like this is fabricated from a combination of pressed-steel, and plywood at a guess.

I've tried that plugin Ive had a atari arcade took it apart and put a i3 build in it. I'm thinking more of a modern build. I'm thinking of playing stf5 on it

I used to go to the arcade daily and every time I saw a damaged machine it was made of particle board. I've seen some of the older ones like choplifter made from plywood.

I found a 2005 golden tee arcade, it looks like a normal stand up arcade. Would restoring it be better then start from scracth.here's the link. https://newjersey.craigslist.org/ele/5396776541.html

Depends on what you want to do with it. The advantage of building from scratch is that you can make it how you want it. That is full HD LCD instead of an old monitor, smaller cabinet or larger/wider, maybe more upright screen etc etc. Also own controls over x-arcade. Sure it's probably more expensive that way but you have full control on how you want it.

great places to look around...

Thanks for the links.

Oh. Well initially you said you wanted to play mvc... In that case, just get any decent computer/monitor combo and build a box for it.

I put a link of the arcade i want and I think I'll just sell the parts in it and put my own. The links that hakker put are good for me to build off of

Honestly I just try to buy a arcade cabinet and convert it, arcade games go for next to nothing at auctions, all you need is a truck and a friend to help you load and unload. I use to buy and rebuild/resale pinball machines and bought most at arcade auctions refurbishing them then selling into the home market, depending on where you live several times a year their are auctions within driving distance.

You might look at this site and see if they have a auction close to you...

You do not need to be a dealer to buy, but you do need to register before bidding, of course they take cash but most will take major credit cards also......no checks, you have to have your own help and way to load your purchase in most cases.

Not sure how it would be today but back when I was buying arcade cabinets that were stripped of their electronics they almost gave away, because older working units went for around $100 and a couple year old machine working 100% was $200-$300 just depended on the game.

Just a thought....

I think that's the route I'm gonna go seems easier.

I can say you're better off building a custom control panel or ordering a wood kit from ebay. This way you can put in high quality sticks and buttons to the specs you want. The X-Arcade default switches are a bit mushy compared to most actual arcade units. I prefer IL stuff as they are what Happ used to be before Happ started making less quality parts in their own factory. Also, you have a build yet for this I made this sucker recently - https://pcpartpicker.com/b/fjxYcf Runs great. That 3258 is a beast for emulation and so damn affordable.

That seems affordable.

It's a super affordable processor, Micro Center was selling em for $50 for a long time, you can get the anni mobo that was made for it too and auto OC up to 4.2 with a button click. The thing OC's up to 4.5/8 fairly easy too. This is huge because most emulators besides Dolphin and PCSX2 don't use more than two cores, and those are just now starting to see benefit from more. I actually run them fine in fullscreen HD with my 3258.

Sounds like you are more going arcade so MAME which won't use more than two cores. So basically you can get i7 performance out of MAME for $50... get a cheap GPU for HLSL and you are set. My build I went a bit more on some stuff knowing I wanted to do some Dolphin and PCSX2.
