since multimonitor VRR is just not possible on linux, i am wondering, if i ran games on a VM with a dedicated 2nd gpu passed through to it, could it then support VRR on it and thus achieve the same end result of linux multimonitor experience, but with freesync for gaming?
Yes and it is not difficult. Make sure you passthrough the vid and audio together to avoid problems.
Wait do you mean passthrough of two video cards? I have not done that although it should work. Maybe someone else more knowledgeable will reply.
I am moving away from qemu / kvm systems do to problems with USB. I recently assembled an ITX system and hope to convert my mid tower to ITX. So far the IPX system has had zero USB issues, bonus I do not need to reboot everything when the system needs to shutdown.
ty for the reply!
no no no, just passthrough 1 gpu to the VM, the beefiest, and keep 1 gpu that is older native to linux as normal.
i actually will have 2 systems built when doing this, but i don’t want to fiddle with kvm/different input devices/changing output source to control the 2 systems as that is cumbersome compared to multimonitor.
USB issues would certainly ruin my experience, but i am hoping that won’t happen, we’ll see
I had three USB port issues, 1) it did not like my USB keyboards with volume controls when using a KVM switch. 2) It was cumbersome adding and removing USB devices like a USB drive and removal in a non specific order would freeze the USB port and sometime the VM would suffer. 3) Copying a large quantity of large photos onto a USB drive would fail every time. I could duplicate this freeze with three different file managers. So I gave up on running VMs after 4 years.
The small IPX systems fits my limited desk space very well.
