Help in building PC!

I'm finally upgrading from my crappy dell laptop to something that will let me game. My budget is up to 1.1k. Any suggestions will be helpful.

I will now be listing all my parts as a pcpartpicker link because its easier.

JAN 11, 2014: I went ahead and decided to spend a little bit more money to get a Intel i5 proccesor.

The 990FX Extreme3 is a pretty weak motherboard - I don't recommend it.

16GB is also a bit overkill for gaming, and having 4 RAM sticks isn't any beneficial to 2 8GB sticks.

I'm also not a fan of WD Green drives due to their higher-than-average failure rate.  Go with a WD Blue or Black instead.

Also, what games are you playing?  I tend to lean towards Intel because having a higher per-core performance is usually much more beneficial in games than having more cores.

For the price point that you are looking at for your power supply, I'd suggest the extra 10-20 dollars to get a fully modular PSU, EVGA has some interesting PSUs check out pc part picker and it will allow you to see individual components that are spec'd to your likings and you can see what they are priced and where and what rebates/sales they have. Case I'd check around a little more, you can find fantastic full tower cases for  around 50-80 dollars. I use the NZXT source 530 and I love it. I would also suggest going with a 120gb range SSD which you can find for around 50 dollars typically and maybe just a 1 tb WD Blue or two of those, I saw them around 55 recently you'll probably get better performance out of those than the WD green series. Plus the SSD will be great for OS and a few key applications or games that you use frequently.

EDIT. you could probably get away with a 500W PSU as well. so more considerations.

EDIT. Might I suggest this? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Vw9jsY

feel free to play around with it, sort of hit your price point without changing too much.

I'm glad you made the suggestion on the HDD as well!

I went for the Extreme4, is that any better. Also I couldn't find anything that had the most bang for the buck for an i5 without going 200+. I think that this is fine for now though. I don't know why I had 4 ram sticks, probably derped, I also went for a 1tb and decided just to add an ssd. And for games I play modded Skyrim, Crysis, Far Cry, some other AAA games, a lot of indie games also. Thanks for the help!

I got the modular PSU which was cheaper than I thought it would be. I got the Fractal Design R4 Black Pearl with the window which I think looks nice with the Scandinavian design. I went ahead and got a 1tb WD Blue and spent the extra on a SSD which I wanted but didn't know which one to get. Thanks for your suggestions!

The 1 TB blue is perfect for what games you mentioned in earlier comments, if you have a library of a ton of less-demanding games you could put those on the green. but for the price to performance (not to mention the lesser failure rates) the caviar blue drives are way better. The modular PSU will be way less of a headache.

Which PSU and SSD did you end up going with I will be interested in learning more about your build I can give you some details on mine too if you are interested (not that it is too impressive).

I posted it as a pcpartpicer link - http://pcpartpicker.com/user/LethalBlood/saved/tDk8TW

I meant once you have it built, post some pics of it!

Oh okay, I will!

Made a few tweaks and should still be in your budget :)
