Help finding a Driver for Gamestop brand X360 Controller

Hey everyone. I'm having a terrible time trying to get my new controller to work on Steam games. I have Windows 7. I bought the cheaper Gamestop brand xbox 360 controller today, and I downloaded the driver from Microsoft.com. When I plug the controller in, the green ring around the xbox symbol turns on for a second or two, then nothing. I went to the device manager and it shows "gamepad for xbox 360" in the unknown devices section. Nothing I press on the controller does anything. I don't know what else to try. Can anyone here help me?

My Gamestop PS3 controller installed its drivers automatically.

You can manually install the microsoft driver. I can't remember the exact steps off the top of my head, but if you right click on it in device manager and choose update driver, then choose the manual option and somewhere it should have choose a driver from a list, go in there and there should be another option that will show all the drivers installed on the system, in the left box go to microsoft and in the right box find the xbox 360 controller, then install it and it should work.

Yeah like Dexter said follow these steps:

  • Download the latest Xbox 360 Controller drivers from the Microsoft website.
  • Install the driver after downloading it.
  • Open the Device Manager on your computer. You can access the device manager from the Control Panel, or by pressing the Windows key + X in Windows 8.
  • Look for the Unknown Device in the “Other Devices” section. Right-click on it.
  • Click the Update Driver Software option in the right-click menu.
  • Select “Browse my computer for driver software”.
  • Click “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.
  • Scroll down and select “Xbox 360 Peripherals” from the list of hardware types.
  • Choose the newest version of “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows”.

I'm kicking myself in the ass as hard as i possibly can right now. I forgot that I posted this question here a month ago and never checked for a reply. I've been using XBCD in conjunction with XPadder and it was a hot mess just to get any game to work with it. Thank you so much! it works perfectly now!
